ASIAN BAD ASS MEETS SEXY ALIEN: THE INTERACTIVE GAME

I haven't been a very big fan of Guil Clavera's projects in the past. While he does have an interesting creativity to him, his movies don't always come off as entertaining as they should be. Trying to break out of the box that is indie filmmaking Clavera is testing the waters with his Youtube project "Asian Bad Ass Meets Sexy Alien" which is a series of short films that uses the interactive element of Youtube to turn the series in to a "Choose Your Own Adventure" game.

While I was very skeptical off the bat, I found myself rather immersed in the different paths that could be taken as the game goes on. There's not so much a premise as there is a concept that has many ways of playing out if you choose the path that is right or wrong. Guil Clavera pulls off the small budget with a tongue in cheek attitude with a space ship that's pretty cartoonish if amusing, and a sexy alien (hence the title) who must be reached regardless of the path you take.

As all of Clavera's films he's front and center here and his character is pretty funny if you can get past the fact that he's basically ill fitted for his space ship. But that's the fun of it, really. I'm interested in seeing how this turns out for Clavera, because it's a pretty amusing experiment that could be played on other devices beside Youtube.

I don't know how far this game can go in terms of length and scope, but for what it is, it's an amusing experiment using the aspects of Youtube to bring in new users. Clavera definitely seems to be testing the waters, and it's an interesting project.
