I’m a fan of Sean JS Jourdan’s original film “Who’s Mama! Joe Mama!” a
look at the intricacies of raising a child let alone raising in to a
fine upstanding young man capable of good things with the right touch by
his father and friends. “The Beekeeper” is Jourdan’s third short film
outing focusing on the lonely co dependent woman who will go far in
manipulating mates to the point in bearing their child. Strong in
subtext and sharp characterization, Jourdan paints a femme fatale of a
character whose own manipulation wedges the men in her like in a corner
where she lords her confrontations over them to ensure that she will
remain a permanent fixture in their lives.

“The beekeeper” is a symbolic summary of the bees that
remain in our lives left to prick our souls again and again
whenever the need for deception tickles her fancy. I
remembered the feeling I had during Jourdan’s previous drama
and realized the shaky camera work from before is altogether
missing and trying for more professionalism and skill. “The
Beekeeper” is the film about people who hide who have
nothing to say to one another, lest the chaos persist with a
family living with a giant elephant in their room. |

“The BeeKeeper” left me reeling and wondering if the cat would ever
be let out of the bag or confronted in walls where such discussion
would be unwise as their child goes off to avoid a past mistake.
Jourdan’s direction is very strong and the performances all very
provocative particularly from Michelle Mueler who is altogether
despicable and interesting at the same time. The question we’re left
with is: How long can these characters live with the elephant in the
room before it all busts under the pressure?
A picture of making mistakes and seduction, "The Bee Keeper" is a subtle
and effective look at how sordid could send ripples through a family
anxious to escape and confront the problem. Truly it's a great follow up
Jourdan's previous films.
