EL DIABLO #3
Momar Van Der Camp

Published by DC Comics
Written by Jai Nitz
Art by Phil Hester and Ande Parks

The El Diablo curse might have hit a snag with both Chato and Lazarus fighting for control, and the battle between Jorge and Chato heats up.

Commentary:
I don't really want to talk about the issue but in broad strokes. Lazarus on the phone talking to Chato was hilarious. Not knowing what he was doing and why he couldn't see Chato made it fit perfectly with the legend of Lazarus Lane as he was around a long time ago.

Having Chato finally meet up with Jorge and take the battle to him while Lazarus fought Vorpal, also great.

And that's all I want to talk about.

Nitz, Hester and Parks have created a character that I can only hope gets to stick around in DC continuity for years to come. Yes, El Diablo might seem like DC's answer to Ghost Rider as he is a Spirit of Vengeance, but who cares? Who says that both universes shouldn't have Spirits of Vengeance (especially since Ghost Rider could just be a rip-off of Deadman or Spectre anyway)?

Being that they have created a minority character, I fear for this story being taken seriously as the years pass on. I fear for the character of Chato Santana getting his rightful place in the DC universe, the same way I fear for the new Unknown Soldier. The world is not fair to minority characters, so I keep my fingers crossed in the hope that it can be something new and awesome.

But not only is he a minority character, he's also handicapped. He's a hispanic man in a wheelchair and he's DC's Spirit of Vengeance. How awesome is that? Just completely insanely awesome.

So, as always, I love this book. I hope for the best with it. There are a few more issues left and it's still easy to be part of the ground floor with this one. Get out there and read this awesome issue and fill the need for new characters in a universe with a few too many white-bread cookie cutter characters. This should be one you read.
