EVERWOOD: THE
COMPLETE SECOND SEASON (DVD)
|
|||||||||||
I loved Everwood and I think it was a show
that was a rare family outing that didn't rely on the religious
overtones "Seventh Heaven" did and didn't sink down to teen sleaze like
"The OC." Instead it was a firmly balanced family dramedy that took the
Midwest tundra and showed off a cast of character who, with the
narration of Everwood's kindly bus driver/observer, brought to us
genuine emotions and dramatic momentum that stuck with the series until
the very end. Take the opening of the long awaited "Everwood" Season Two
DVD where our love interest Amy envisions an Everwood that's picturesque
and filled with simplistic complications that revolve around an outing
with the core characters of the series celebrating a nice summer day.
"Everwood" was always a show that was criminally under the radar in the US and was never fully appreciated even after its excellent series finale. "Everwood" was too genuine to be recognized as a show deserving of acclaim and a steady fan base; take the long overdue release of season two on DVD box set that came way too late in to the life of the format while we were left with the season one set for a few years. Hopefully we get the entire run of the series on the format very soon, because season two is a great sophomore starter in to a show that just didn't get the love it needed. The cast is immaculate, the acting is off the charts pleasing, and the stories are never too melodramatic to be pegged solely as a teen drama. I love "Everwood," and I hope we get to see the rest of the run on this format and perhaps the Blu Ray format very soon. As for the extras we're given a series of Unaired scenes which are good but not good enough for such a long delayed release in to the Warner home entertainment release. Where are the commentaries by the creators? What, no deleted scenes or at least the promise of season three coming very soon? For shame.
