THE FIRST DEATH OF LAURIE STRODE #1
Felix Vasquez Jr.

Ever wondered what truly happened to Laurie Strode shortly after “Halloween II”? Well writer Stefan Hutchinson dares to dabble in the first ever death of Laurie Strode, the titular character who came face to face with the shape twice and survived to tell about it. But what happened once she left the hospital? Well, more than anything either of us could fathom, as Hutchinson tells it. Continuing the thesis that Michael’s infatuation with Laurie was more than that of a brother and sister a la Judith Meyers and his continued sexual ambiguity that’s manifested through his continued torture of women and his punishment of the men that lust after the women.

Michael continues to be the embodiment of sexual confusion who casts his long dark shadow over everyone’s lives. “The First Death of Laurie Strode” deals with the aftermath of both confrontations and how Laurie was incapable of ever living a normal life in Haddonfield with Michael walking around and looming in her life. Not only that, but Hutchinson reaches further down in to the deep mythos of the films by daring to look at the deaths of Laurie’s original parents and how Michael may have had a hand in it.

There are also some hints as to why Michael was the monster he was and what was it that created this soulless monster that grew to torture and inflict pain on the people who loved him. Clearly this is compelling material and one that’s impossible to review without giving away twists and turns. Suffice it to say this is Hutchinson at his typical best who grasps the Halloween material with pure skill while artist Jeff Zornow is magnificent in capturing the hellion that is Michael and the likeness of Jamie Lee Curtis. This is a mini-series I definitely intend on seeing through as all of Hutchinson’s work. Kudos Stefan.
