The pilot episode of A&E's "The Fugitive Chronicles"
details the actual case of Danny Ray Horning, an armed
robber who managed to evade police for a very long time
and kept them on their toes for longer than anyone ever
imagined. I don't always love everything the channel
puts out and I honestly didn't enjoy "The Fugitive
Chronicles" as much as I hoped mainly because the series
is something of a sensationalized look at these
criminals. The stories are somewhat entertaining to sit
through but the episode is painted like a movie where
the criminals are voiced by actors who make them sound
somewhat appealing, the accounts are all told like some
sort of adventure film, and the cases are sped right
through so as to keep us inside the heads of the crooks
who we should be jeering but are influenced to kind of
root for their escape and find out where they ended up
by the time the episode ends. I will give them this: the
episode that premieres on April 1st is rather
fascinating as Danny Ray Horning is able to evade police
for almost a month by using his skills in the
wilderness. He even manages to kill an owl and eat it
raw to survive. This man is rather intelligent, but
that's basically the point I make in the aforementioned
paragraph. The criminals are made to seem sexy and
charming when really they're not someone we'd really
like to come across in real life. It's an interesting
series nevertheless but it's not something I'd follow in
the long run. |
