Commentary:
I buy a lot of comic books monthly. The ones that I review for this site are not nearly the comics that I buy on a weekly basis. I buy a lot of trades, I buy a lot of monthly books and I buy a lot of random one-shots, minis, and just random one-off issues that look interesting.

If I had to stop buying comics, period, end of sentence, and could only pick one up monthly, this would be the book. This would be the only comic that I cared about. This would be it.

BOOK OF THE WEEK!!

When there is a writer and artist team that completely respect the past while pushing it forward, showing respect to the fans, creators, and everything associated with the character and everything we've ever loved about them, you know that that book will be awesome. You know that it will be the weird little comic that is off the reservation, off the map, that little book that most people don't pay attention to because there isn't some NAME creator on it so it falls off to the wayside.

This is that comic.

Just a quick plot update: Johnny is in Tennessee and meets up with Sister Sara, the granddaughter of Caretaker, who was essentially Ketch's mentor and protector and the protector of the bloodlines. Johnny travels to Caretaker's plot of land but is too late, he's already dying and near death. Caretaker mentions that there are things in that home of his that need to be saved, need to be protected, and it's too late for him, but Sara needs to be the new Caretaker, she has to do the right thing and get all that info and save it.

Johnny is attacked by Blackout and the battle literally only lasts a few panels. Johnny mocks Blackout by essentially calling him the clapper with fangs (hilarious) and the lights go out and Johnny stands victorious. Of course, Ketch is laying waste to all the Books of the Ghost Riders (here is our first cursory glimpse at Michael Badilino, the man known as Vengeance, his name is on one of the books as is a few other names) and while Ketch is laying waste to the books, Sara runs to the basement and is overrun by all the information there. Her eyes are open to the history of the Ghost Riders, which allows for an amazing splash page showing scores of previous Ghost Riders (Vengeance, Daimon Hellstrom (I assume he's just a Spirit of Vengeance), the Noble Kale SOV from Ghost Rider 94, a pilot Ghost Rider, Johnny, Danny, a Ghost Rider with Nunchuks, another laughing person who I can't place, and a Ghost Rider with a Pontiac Trans Am (I want this one's story immediately please)).

So Sara now retains all the information of the Ghost Riders (we assume) and Danny and Johnny face-off for a brief second before Danny walks through a door to Tibet and Johnny and Sara have to go after him. So the basement of Caretaker had various escape routes, doors that led all over the world (kinda like Monsters Inc) and now the battle between Ghost Riders looks like it's headed to Tibet.

The final stuff with Caretaker in the afterlife, basically getting ripped to shreds either by Zadkiel or by his angel minions was strange. Heaven is a white empty box and pretty much just like Hell, depending on who you are.

I cannot say enough good things about this book. I want more. Screw Amazing Spidey, this book should be three times monthly. This book should be coming out 5 times a week for Christ's sake. It is that good. It completely does away with any preconceived notions I had for this book. I never know what to expect. Hell, next month the book could come out and the manga Ghost Rider from the mid-90s could be the Ghost Rider and I'd still buy it. I really would.

It's just an insanely good book. It really is. Aaron and Tan Eng Huat are doing a splendid job on this book. The fact that Huat has been on with no breaks so far, no hiccups in the schedule either, that puts him in a very elite group of artists. Doesn't hurt that this book kicks ass either.

But seriously folks, this is the book. It's got the horror stuff. The legacy characters. Brother vs brother drama. Deals with devils (that don't completely screw the character over, again, ala Spider-Man), continuity, motorcycles, and a strong sense of the grindhouse. It usually has a pretty tongue-in-cheek comedy aspect to it as well. This is the book that tops all others. I leave it to last and read it about 3 times each time it comes out.

I honestly could give up all the rest of my comics just to be able to keep reading this. And that sucks for all those creators that I love to this day, but if this book stays this awesome, then I already know what my next tattoo will be and I already know what my favorite comic character will continue to be. I've loved Ghost Rider since I started reading comics, so this book just takes the cake on awesomeness.

Do yourself a favor and stop reading crappy comics just because you're collecting them or keeping the numbering going. Screw that shit and read something good. Get on the ground floor now while you could still purchase these stories. This is the only book you HAVE to read.
