The RETURN of Danny Ketch. How did it happen? Why? And why is he attached to a Spirit of Vengeance? Or is he?

Commentary:
First things first, I am SO FUCKING EXCITED to see this book on stands. My first taste of Ghost Rider was a reprint comic my dad bought for me, and when I started reading comics in the early 90s, Danny Ketch was the Ghost Rider. He was the one that I knew. The one that I grew up with.

The one that solidified my love for all things Ghost Rider. The one that made me just utterly hate when it got cancelled the first time and always makes me wonder what happened to Howard Mackie and Ivan Velez.

Clint Langley can draw a badass cover as well. Jesus tap dancing christ. Book of the WEEK!

Okay, so the story: Danny Ketch didn't die or came back to life. 2 years have passed since he lost the Noble Kale Ghost Rider from his soul. And it has been haunting him ever since. The ish opens with him in the middle of a bar brawl that he started, and it leads to a Raven following him around waiting for the right moment. That moment comes when some bank robbers nearly kill him. Of course, it ends with them being near killing him again. But that's beside the point.

The book makes mention of his entire history. From the Noble Kale Spirit of Vengeance that bonded with him due to him touching the seal on his motorcycle, the same seal that cursed his mother before him. It also mentions how muddled up the history is. And the Raven allows him with a taste of what he's lost, what he expelled from his body with the help of a witch. And that looks a whole shitload like Vengeance when he does change. Not so much like Ghost Rider, but more Vengeance. Doesn't matter, it only lasts for a minute and then the power is gone.

That sucks big time for Danny.

So we don't really know if Noble Kale went on to rule hell. Or how Danny stayed alive after expelling Noble from his body. But he did. The story had at one time or another been that he 'died' but it's comics, so whatever. Accept death with a grain of salt ALL the time.

Regardless of that, I'm looking forward to seeing what comes next. When I met Javier Saltares and gushed about how his Danny Ketch and his Ghost Rider helped bring me into comics and make me a cold-hearted demon-hating bastard, I asked him what his next thing was going to be. He couldn't tell me. Something big. Something awesome. And he winked. Good lord I would have hugged him had I known it was this when I met him. His art is just all kinds of awesome. He is the artist of record on Danny and will forever be that artist. It's some stellar work, and when Danny lets go and changes into the new form of Vengeance or whatever he is, you can tell how much fun Javier is having. Just pure awesome.

And Spurrier, who has done an Annual or two for Ghost Rider, just kicks this one out of the park. This is not easy continuity to make sense of. By no means. He does not have an easy task, especially considering that when Ghost Rider was cancelled at issue 93, the Danny Ketch Ghost Rider showed up in a Peter Parker Spider-Man comic a few months after that that all but confused the hell out of the plans. Noble Kale was still attached to Danny's soul, and he was still the Ghost Rider, even those Noble was supposed to be ruling in hell.

Simon has some work to do to explain some of that. Especially since Danny was 'dead' and then wasn't in a heartbeat.

But that doesn't matter. This comic is all kinds of awesome, and next issue can't get here fast enough. Can't wait to see what Mary did to expel the demon from Danny and how it all ties together. I cannot wait for the continuing part of this mini.
