GRANDMA'S COOKIES

I try not to make it a habit of bashing indie movies that have three digit budgets and rely solely on homemade classic effects instead of snazzy CGI, so with "Grandma's Cookies" I was forgiving. That is until you sit down to watch the eight minute horror production and instantly realize where he's going with the premise. I won't give it away mainly because the plot gives itself away before the title even appears on screen. And don't get me started on the flawed logic put behind the actual premise. Frankly director/writer Kyle Stackhouse's movie pushes unanswerable questions before his story and we're left with a giant plot hole right on the climax and you have to wonder why Grandma could get away with all of this and still be able to get away with this charade without a bit of doubt or interrogation from her relatives let alone perfect strangers. How did she chase down these young men? When did she do it?

Why does she do it? Does her family know she practices this baking method? Is grandma really a grandma? And how does she handle her evil deeds as an old woman overpowering her victims with such ease? I mean can a frying pan really knock someone out? Does she drag her bodies in to her home by herself? Why is she stronger than every victim? And does she make it a habit of chasing her murder victims in the middle of the day. I've seen much worse productions that I could be convinced are just shabby excuses for a horror film and "Grandma's Cookies" comes short of entering that zone. With more polishing and sealing of the plot holes and severely flawed logic, it could be a solid film. Just give us more to work with next time, Stackhouse.

It's not the worst indie flick I've seen but it certainly isn't the best either. It has miles to go before it can implement better storytelling methods and the sorely missing logic, then maybe I'll give it another chance.
