Yes children, you too can be like
James Farr if
you try hard enough. Farr, who is currently hitting it bigger
and bigger with his creation Xombie, is inspiration to all the
fan boys out there who want their own cult figure beloved by
horror fans, and all it takes is hard work, a creative idea, and
talent. The comic book mini series "Xombie # 3" is the result of Farr's creation, now a
simultaneous success as an online cartoon, and a mini series for
currently hip comic publisher Devil's Due Publishing.
Issue three sets down on
Dirge and Zoe in the middle of a zombie infested
forest they must attempt to escape. With the
sabotage of an annoying bird, Dirge and Zoe now find
themselves racing to home base where survivors lurk,
and must attempt to outrun zombie zoo animals of all
kinds trying to grab onto Zoe for consumption. |

| With the power
down at the home base, they have to find a way
to restore it while keeping their own bodies in
tact from the animals who will stop at nothing.
Going into this in issue three was quite a
burden considering I knew so much about the
characters, but so very little about the
situations, but I still had fun with the issue,
and the chemistry between Dirge and Zoe keeps
the story afloat.
Farr keeps the issue
drifting between menace and quirky situations on
every page, and the tension between Zoe and
Dirge on the road is quite compelling,
especially since he's finding it more and more
difficult to control his hunger around Zoe. The
art by Nate Lovett bears a startling resemblance
to the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" comics
from the nineties from Archie Comics, and it
shows quite often in panels where Dirge is
preparing to smack a zombie with his shovel, and
nearly attacks Zoe.
The comic is
nonetheless sleek and entertaining, and I
anxiously await the further issues of Dirge and
Zoe in the "Xombie" miniseries.
