I'm not a filmmaker, I don't
purport to be a filmmaker, I have no aspirations to
become one even though I've been told to try it, but in
spite of all of that, "Casting Revealed" truly sucked me
in. Author Hester Schell turns such a complex and
complicated process in to a truly compelling little read
that works as a hand guide for anyone looking to engage
in genuine casting for their films or projects. There's
even one portion of the book in which we're introduced
to an array of actors and their various headshots and
Schell explains the differences and subtlety's in their
headshots and what each one is supposed to represent in
terms of character and personality. And it's shocking
how much it makes sense. For independent directors
looking for a guide to help in the casting process,
Hester Schell provides one hell of an interesting little
book that lays out all of the steps in bringing aboard
the right actors for your project, and she even includes
some quotes from noted professionals in the business and
big names like George Clooney.
For those interested, Ms.
Schell explores the ins and outs of the casting process
including doing nude scenes, emailing actors about your
casting decisions for the sake of common courtesy, and
even what to look for in terms of tattoos and scars
whenever scouring for the right performer. Meanwhile she
also advises on how to talk to agents, how to deal with
new actors without headshots, all of which will act as a
handy tool for any aspiring filmmaker looking to create
an actual film and not just fool around with friends.
Schell writes in a brisk and stern pace that allows the
reader to cut through the crap and get down to the nitty
gritty of the entire process and how demanding it can be
for any filmmaker and producer looking for a remotely
competent performer. For anyone interested in a serious
look in to casting, check out this book, it's a quick,
but very informative read. |
