ANCHORMAN: THE LEGEND OF RON BURGUNDY

There’s a lot of good to be had with this movie.

I have to be honest. I really, really don’t like Will Farrell. He doesn’t make me laugh, and whenever I saw a sketch of his on Saturday Night Live, I turned the channel. Literally. He annoys me with how unfunny he is.

But I watched this movie, and I’m really impressed. I laughed pretty hard, and I was totally surprised that Will Farrell wrote a lot of this.

This is a project that is obviously a labor of love, and it shows, from the ensemble cast to the way it turned out.

I like “moments” in films, times that you will actually pull the DVD out to just watch again, and there are a lot of them in this movie.

The part where Jack Black punts the dog.

The part where the reporter gangs have a fight with tridents on horseback.

Any moment where Brick is on the screen.

Brick just steals this show. Steve Carell is just a comedic dynamo. Why does Will Farrell get movies whereas Steve just has to steal them? GIVE THE MAN A MOVIE!

There are times when the story tries too much to assert itself, but all in all, there are light titters all over the place, and gut laugh moments, which is all that it takes to make me happy. If it had abandoned most of the plot all the way, you’d have a gut buster. They also never really pushed any lines. No semen in the hair, nothing that marks a comedy as pushing the line.

There is, like I said, some story involved. They try and make the romance somewhat plausible. Why? I don’t know. And there are some moments that are just plain Will Farrell unfunny, but they’re fewer and far between, instead, character rules. Which saves this movie.

Worth a buy. A lot of fun, a good film with friends. It may clash with your sense of humor, but bear in mind that I hate Farrell, and I enjoyed hell out of this film.
