CHARLIE AND LOLA SIX: HOW MANY MORE MINUTES UNTIL CHRISTMAS? (DVD)

I’ll tell you, I don’t want to meet the person that finds a sincere distaste in “Charlie and Lola.” It’s pretty much the perfect kids show that’s also enjoyable for adults. It’s funny, it’s animated in simple crude styles, and it features some of the best voice work I’ve heard from children since “Charlie Brown,” and it’s also utterly adorable. Even for a cynical adult like yours truly, “Charlie and Lola” is a fun and sweet little animated series about a brother and sister who experience life through imagination and experience. Charlie is the wise and all knowing older brother who displays a distinct sense of patience and amusement toward his little sister Lola, a wide eyed and absolutely curious little girl who wants to know as much as possible about the world around her.

Part six in the “Charlie and Lola” DVD releases features the episode “How Many More Minutes Until Christmas?” which has Lola anxiously awaiting the arrival of Christmas through a visual calendar Charlie has posted on the wall. As she imagines scenarios involving Santa Claus and learns about the joy of the holiday, Charlie keeps Lola busy and patient by distracting her with some great activities including drawing pictures, and sparking her imagination at every turn.

Of course Charlie also lingers on what he would like for Christmas, because even big brothers want something for the holidays, you know. Meanwhile Lola wants a big surprise for Charlie and wants to mail Father Christmas as soon as possible, but when an inadvertent mix-up stalls the letter, she desperately hopes he grants her wish for her big brother. Through their search for their wishes, they go to Christmas land, speak to elves, and ride a slay, all of which comes to a cute finale that brought the special to a pleasing close. Among the seven episodes, Lola learns about Guinea Pigs, about plants, and even must come to grips with Charlie breaking his arm, and his inability to perform their circus show. “Charlie and Lola Six” is a great treat for the children.

"How Many More Minutes until Christmas?" is a fun DVD addition to the "Charlie and Lola" library. With a great capper, your kids will love the misadventures of Charlie and Lola. I sure did.
