Wright and the crew have a lot of ideas for
the series of “The Chosen One.” Even though there’s really only been one
episode, there’s a lot of potential for a massive arc and colorful
characters along the way. “The Chosen One” is very much in the vein of
“Hex” except not painfully boring. A young girl named Emily is having
horrible nightmares and discovers she’s a prophesized chosen one.

What one she is and why she’s
chosen? That will be fleshed out, I assume. Either way, “The
Chosen One” has a lot of zingers to its favor including a
pretty witty opening. The young actress portraying our
heroine Emily is rather entertaining to watch, and the key
to gaining a fandom is having a heroine that you can
sympathize for and like. “The Chosen One” has that
distinction in its favor, and I was pretty interested in
what was progressing. |

“The Chosen One” also manages to have
some good production qualities and works with the obviously low
budget. The opening scene is pretty creepy, and the character of
Emily obviously has a lot of power in store, and she’s on her way to
following the prophecy. I’m curious to see what future episodes hold
in store for these characters. It can gain a cult following if the
production and actors are held with enough standards.
The fact that “The Chosen One” basically
only has one episode on its website doesn’t work in the series favor.
While there is a lot of potential, there’s also a lot of inconsistency
that will hopefully be worked out in further episodes, so criticisms
against the pilot are really more on stuff that perhaps will be resolved
or touched upon. For one, how did Emily come across the priest? How did
he know she’d be in the street reciting chants? Was he following her? If
not, then does he always carry around a giant cross? And what of the
moment where Emily declares she won’t be able to recite a lot of the
mystical chants and is seen reciting them by memory later on? One of the
more glaring inconsistencies comes in the form of Emily arriving at a
magic shop to seek the answers to the mysteries of her nightmares. Only
ten minutes at the shop, and the keeper calls someone and proclaims
she’s the one, as the prophecy foretold. How could he have known it was
the one and not some random customer? Wright never gives us any
indication from the keeper’s point of view that she’s the chosen one.
Again, perhaps this is all issues to be worked out in further episodes,
but in “The Chosen One” is seems rather ambiguous and sloppy.
Z Channel Online’s series “The Chosen One”
has a lot of wrinkles and flaws to smooth out for further episodes, but
overall it’s a series with a lot of potential. A charismatic lead
actress makes the series worth checking out for all the fans of “Hex”
and “Buffy.”
