DAÑOS DEL AMOR

Kahn’s comedy can be pretty much in tact through a portion of “Daños Del Amor,” mainly because the cast seems to be having fun. From the pretty weird interruption of a character who dates Mia halfway through, to the sudden appearance of weapons, Kahn’s comedy is well placed. Most of all, America Young is cute and memorable as the she-bitch Mia who wants to leave a mark on the men who done done her wrong.

Kahn’s film is never really sure what it’s trying to do during its thirteen minute running time. Is it a spoof of how much of a battle love is, or is it a spoof of martial arts films, or is it basically just a tale of two martial artists settling their quarrel with a rumble? I was never sure. Most times I was confused. Michael and Mia are a great couple who spend all day together, and fight Martial arts together. Kahn makes sure to show us this for an extended period. One day Michael begins to flirt with a dancer on the street, the two break up and they meet once more to settle their dispute through an ass kicking.

While normally that type of off the wall surrealism is entertaining, it just wasn’t as entertaining here. Because “Daños Del Amor” can never settle down long enough to tell an actual story and involve us in these people’s lives. Instead of Mia coming off as a justified ex, she becomes more of a militant she-bitch, while Michael instead of a simple man who made a mistake is more of an idiotic cheater. Kahn can never really involve us into the characters’ personalities, and just when we’re finally starting a story, Kahn continues to speed up the pace with a fight scene that ends the film. Sadly, Kahn’s film comes off pretty cheesy, especially when we delve into the theatrics that’s never as fun or funny as they should be, and I was just expecting more from the whole experience.

In spite of the brief spurts of comedy, and energetic performances, "Daños Del Amor" is a pretty cheesy and self-defeating film that can never settle down long enough to get us involved. It moves very fast, thus it's underwhelming.
