THE DUKES OF HAZZARD

At first glance of the previews I was quite skeptical. An all-star cast with Sean William Scott, Johnny Knoxville, Jessica Simpson, Burt Reynolds, Willie Nelson and even Wonder Woman (Lynda Carter), all deterred me from wanting to see this. Especially because of the choice roles for Bo and Luke Duke, two self proclaimed "jackasses". Well, aside from them being dumb asses in most of their motion picture movies, I put that thought aside and gave this a chance. Boy, was I glad! This movie had me laughing almost constantly all the way through. Sure the story has been done before and we have seen this kind of scenario in the original television show but it was still entertaining as hell.

The characters seemed to really come alive on screen and I was drawn into the movie as it went on. I did not think of Daisy Duke as Jessica Simpson or Bo and Luke as Johnny Knoxville and Stifler, I was convinced that they were actually Daisy, Bo, and Luke Duke. There were some decent cameo roles by Willie Nelson as Uncle Jessie, whose only part in the movie was to tell funny What do you call? Jokes. But even that wasn't bad! It made me laugh a lot so it was worth it. Lynda Carter's appearance brought back old memories of "Wonder Woman" as she portrayed Pauline.

I honestly don't care what the original fans think, I am merely reviewing this as how entertaining it is. More specifically, the humor in this movie is not the same kind of humor in typical Hollywood comedies. This is a situation comedy where in certain situations, shit happens that you just can't help but laugh at. There are no real one liners or punch lines here, just plain old silliness here. I found this to be highly entertaining and packed with fun filled action sequences, especially with the good ol' boys driving the General Lee. There were some really cool chase scenes.

As for the acting, I wasn't watching for academy award performances, I was in it to be entertained, plain and simple. Sure the acting stinks, but what do you expect? Jessica Simpson hasn't been in a movie before, or a starring role for that matter (Don't even consider "Newlyweds" or I will shoot you). Burt Reynolds is slowly reviving his acting career so give the guy a break. If you feel that this movie is full of grade C actors who are posing a threat to the original "Dukes of Hazzard" legacy then don't waste your time going to see this. This was a simple plot for simple characters and if that is too much for people to understand then don't bother. On the other hand, if you liked the original series and have nothing better to do on a boring weekend afternoon, give this one a chance, you will enjoy it.

A fast paced plot directed by Jay Chadrasekhar, with an all star cast, full of numerous action packed chase scenes and hilarious moments that will leave you laughing all the way to the very end. Funny and entertaining? Yes. Filled with great acting and a fantastic plot? No.
