DRAFTED: 99¢ PREVIEW

The good folks at Devil's Due Publishing are pushing almost half a dozen new titles in the next month, and one of the many anticipated selections includes "Drafted."

"Drafted" is of course the prologue to a larger epic in store for readers all over America, as Devil's Due, ever the masters of the genre comics, gives us a massive series chronicling an invasion.

Of course, you won't really see much in this preview, which is a high spot. Devil's Due peaks your interest enough to warrant buying the future issues, and discover what's in store, and I really will be seeking out this title on shelves near me.

A president who wants to nuke his enemies to kingdom come, soldiers and everyone in and around Jerusalem being stricken with skull shattering headaches for no apparent reason, ER's being clogged to the brim, what's going on?

Apparently, we're not being told just yet, but for what it's worth, writer Mark Powers sets up a rather intriguing preamble to a larger map involving aliens that's still left dangling until the official series begins its run. But set-up is basic; different characters with different narratives are introduced, and there's so much left to come.

The cover pretty much says it all, and with a healthy dose of "Taken," I suspect "Drafted" will have an interesting life with fans. The preview issue, for the investigative few, will pretty much say it all for us. Humans are being drafted all around the world to fight a war, and it's a war that doesn't involve Muslims or any kind of terrorists we've ever seen.

I'm beaming with excitement, because I suspect "Drafted" will be a larger allegory for the war in Iraq, along with the obviously hinted power hungry president who seems to lust the destruction occurring across the world. With one ominous final panel in the end of the book, you'll know the series is at its start, and I can't wait for the first issue for a better idea of the characters, and aliens waiting in the wings.

Now available from Devil's Due.
