As we told you in our review of "Drafted: 99 Cent
Preview," Devil's Due really has a a potential for
being an interesting allegory for the Iraq War and
our general inability to disassociate ourselves from
the world around us until the troubles come banging
down our door forcing us to bring up arms.
Thus is the general
themes behind "Drafted," a series about surefire
alien invasions and humanity's struggles to defend
itself against the occupying race. Sure, the premise
is about as old as sand, perfectly captured by "V,"
but that doesn't mean there's not room creativity
and a new spin. That's why I was very open and
optimistic toward "Drafted," in the end.

Subsequent the chain
world catastrophes, many governments including the
UN committee are struggling to make sense of the
seemingly random deadly incidents and display some
sense of rationality that could possibly lead them
to an answer in putting a stop to it all, including the
inexplicable painful bouts of headaches different people in many
lands seem to be experiencing.
One of the many folks
called to arms is a young man named Gabriel, an
individual struggling to get through college and
still grieving the death of his father. Now, even in
the face of the catastrophes, he finds himself at
the mercy of two dead end go nowhere jobs, that he
finds solace in only because of his own kindness and
relationship with his customers.
There's also a cancer
stricken EMT worker, and a complacent news reporter,
all of whom are witnessing this event unfold, and
don't realize the full force awaiting them
individually. But, issue is much more focused on
portraying the sheer power of this alien force and
how dire the circumstances for the planet may be if
they're intent on destroying an entire country just
to prove their point. "Drafted Issue One" has a
definite sense of dread to it, as it chronicles the
simultaneous end of countries under the hand of
these aliens, which is leading to the inevitable
revelation of what true dangers await them.
Surely, this is an
entertaining and wonderfully apocalyptic science
fiction series worthy of a solid fan base, and
filled with vast epic potential. I'll surely be
awaiting the next issue to see what develops.
