FREEDOM FRIES: AND OTHER STUPIDITY WE'LL HAVE TO EXPLAIN TO OUR GRANDCHILDREN

Blind patriotism is a wonderful thing. It makes most of us idiotic, ignorant, and xenophobic. Take for example the constant “Evil Foreigner” horror films out now. “Freedom Fries” is an indictment on our sexually repressed and utterly idiotic country that used consumerism as a form of narrow-minded rebellion. “Freedom Fries” only shows how idiotic America consistently can be. “Freedom Fries” shows how a wonderful concept like rebellion can be a tool for idiots in the wrong hands. During the Iraq war, there was an outbreak of anti-French sentiment that no one ever realized was stupid. Example: Wine collectors took priceless French wine they purchased, and dumped it down the drain.

Re-examine that sentence. That was their protest, this was patriotism to them. Yay! Let’s destroy what we paid for. That’ll show those croissant eaters! And they never realized how utterly moronic these actions were. Of course, the vain protests never hurt sales in French wine. Then there was the debacle of naming French Fries and French Toast to “Freedom” Fries and “Freedom” toast. Why does Consumerism have such an impact on this country?

Because it drives us to be one of the more wealthy nations in the world, but using it as a form of protest accomplishes nothing because… it drives us. What impact did any of these protests have on our country, and internationally? None! But what was the motive behind this constant protest? This was an attempt to get us to consume more. Buy wine and dump it, go to Disneyworld, fly in planes, Mayor Bloomberg declared: Let’s Go Shopping! Buy cars and you’re a patriot, put bumper stickers on your gas guzzling trucks!

Christman thankfully doesn’t just put the government in the hot seat for manipulating us into thinking spending is patriotism, but he also ostracizes Americans. We’re the idiots who are gullible enough to believe spending is patriotism, thus we fall into this vicious cycle. We spend until we’re financially ruined, and when we attempt to change our lives, we’re still left in financial ruins. “Freedom Fries” is not only a grim reminder on how America and endless consumption go hand in hand, but on how vacuous this nation is. By the way, buy the DVD through us to support our troops.

Christman’s “Freedom Fries” shows how idiotic the most heroic concept can be in the wrong hands. Patriotism, protest, rebellion, all noble concepts ruined by moronic consumers, and there’s no turning back time. Because, soon, we’ll have to explain this to our grandchildren, and we’ll have to explain why people could be this stupid.
