SCHOOLGIRL REPORT VOLUME #7: WHERE THE HEART MUST THEREBY...

For anyone interested in some classic sex exploitation with some comedy attached to its occasionally arousing and enticing interludes of soft core sex and petting, "Schoolgirl Report Volume #7" is a guaranteed good time. Director Ernst Hofbauer composes one of the more entertaining of the installments that revolve around a brothel, and the young girls within who aren't all what they seem. Since this was the end of the sixties and the beginning of a brand new decade, the concept of female empowerment and sexual independence was a fairly new but fantastic concept, and this seventh installment is a demonstration of the period's mindset. A local college man is running a brothel within his apartment allowing older men of the business sorts to come in and pay for some great sex with gorgeous young women he keeps in house. When his little sister Babsi arrives to pay him a visit and borrow some money, an eager customer mistakes her for a customer and aggressively tries to persuade her in to sex.

This escalates in to a fist fight and the man along with his madams are taken in to local court for a massive hearing to decide their fates. Assuming these young girls have been enticed and manipulated, they're all asked to recount their sexual history and their inevitable introduction to the brothel. Obviously, this is all an excuse to introduce some obligatory but rather arousing sexual scenes that all play out like fantasies in Penthouse forum.

One girl recalls her first time in a gym show with a man that gave her a lust for sex. Through this she was able to force her colleagues in to doing her homework in exchange for sexual favors. Another girl garners the hobby of hitchhiking, and bringing horny men to a cabin, where they're beaten and robbed by her biker boyfriends. Three of the brothel's girls even manage to play a prank on an anxious ice cream shop owner giving him a lesson in manners and decency resulting in a naked escape in a hotel lobby. "Schoogirl Report Volume #7" is an entertaining German soft core romp that never takes itself seriously, and is never afraid to be as goofy as possible. Hofbauer directs in typical wonky sixties atmosphere providing extreme close-ups to breasts and in between women's legs, and stages some fairly hilarious moments including the ice cream man sitting under a table coddling three girls inner thighs orgasmically while their legs are spread for him, and muttering of dialogue like "We're here for fucking. All four of you and my cement noodle!"

The whole point of this amusing piece of seventies sexploitation is to indicate that women are much stronger and sexually intelligent than the individuals in this film give them credit for, and Hofbauer expresses that through the constant scenarios where women lead the charge, and call all of the shots, regardless of who thinks they're goading them. I'm usually a fan of tongue in cheek exploitation and "Schoolgirl Report Volume #7" is a good time, if only for the gorgeous women who dominate the screen. The newly released DVD from Impulse Pictures features a restored widescreen edition and brand new subtitles translated from the original audio track.

Partially sexual exploitation for the men, partially a declaration of sexual independence and dominance for the women, "What the Heart Must Thereby..." is a hilarious and very entertaining sexual ride that will please anyone in the market for seventies softcore German cinema.
