GRAVE OF THE
FIREFLIES

The boy, despite being too young to shoulder the burden, works as hard as he can and ends up dying alone and without his family in a subway. Knowing me, that’s an almost instant winner. I mean, it’s real, it’s sad, it’s guttural, it depicts the horror of a real concept, the perils of war, and it also puts it through a narrative that pulls no punches, people who actually experienced it as opposed to people who commentate on the whole affair in retrospect. After you watch the movie, it sticks with you more than you expect it to. The flaws make themselves obvious, but the message stays with you.
