LEGACY

After discovering director Grzegorz Jonkajtys' films on the net, I've come to learn that much of what this man dreams up in his animated films is bleak, grim and often insightful to watch. "Legacy" is one of the finer films from Jonkajtys featuring a world where intelligent life has all but come and gone and a new species of explorer has nothing left to explore.

Filled with incredible computer generated animation, "Legacy" is a short but sweet look at a new species who has come much too late to a blue planet to learn about what makes us tick. In it, a nameless humanoid alien is assigned to abduct and study the species known as "human," but when it arrives on our planet in its gargantuan ship, it is shocked to discover that the planet has become nothing more than a deserted crater void of any known life, save for a doll's head and parts of a mannequin.

Little does it know that the life that once flourished on this planet has all but been snuffed out and its exploration is met with a seemingly redundant artifact and only the knowledge that perhaps his world can avoid what our world didn't.

Stark and oozing with social commentary relevant now more than ever, "Legacy" is a short and succinct piece of science fiction existentialism featuring incredible computer animation and an ending that will leave you rather anxious.
