MOON

Everything about this movie. From top to bottom, the movie is beautiful and all but sheer perfection. And it all starts even before Sam Rockwell steps onto the screen.

The soundtrack is by Clint Mansell, one of the best musicians for film today. From Requiem for a Dream and all of Darren Aronofsky’s films to countless others, his scores change almost completely from film to film. And it starts the movie in the right direction toward sheer perfection.

And once Sam Rockwell hits the screen, running on a treadmill fully bearded, the movie fits itself firmly into a realm of my top favorite films of all-time.

It creates a world in the future, one where things have started to get better and energy is much more sufficient because of the power found from Helium-3 from the moon. It all seems easy and perfect and realistic, which is best part of the movie, it fits into a world that could easily happen and more than likely will (read up on Helium-3).

But let’s talk about the two actors in the film for the majority. And nothing of spoilers will be discussed because there are a few that can be talked about.

But you should see the movie. It’s beautiful. It’s perfection in the realm of sci-fi when there are very few perfect sci-fi films.

Sam Rockwell is a beast. It’s as simple as that. He’s one of the best working actors in Hollywood right now, and he’s finally starting to get some recognition. He’s funny. He’s enjoyable to watch. He can handle drama and soon will be handling some action in Iron Man 2. But he’s believable, he’s the everyman. He’s a slightly dirty version of Tom Hanks, creepy when he needs to be, hilarious when he needs to be, and just completely comes out to play when he’s asked. And he’s asked a lot in this film which is largely a one-man show, and he works wonders with it.

And Kevin Spacey as Gerty was a stroke of casting genius. Truly perfect. You expect a demon, some shadowy force behind the scenes like HAL in 2001, but instead, you get a friendly voice and a loving hand for Sam’s character. His gentle voice and funny faces on the monitor help to lighten the mood when it gets a little more heavy.

But it’s the Sam Rockwell show and we all get to watch and fall in love. If you’re not a fan of him yet, watch this movie and you’ll know what we’ve all been telling you. This is the guy to watch. This is the guy to follow. He’s the one you’ll be hearing about a lot.

Look at his roles in films like Green Mile, Galaxy Quest, Choke, Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, and countless others. He’s a fantastic actor, and this is his coming out party.

Nothing to say except see this movie. It’s perfection for sci-fi fans and a loving tribute to the sci-fi of the 70s. It evokes real emotion and real comedy and it just plays everything to a human level that rarely happens in sci-fi. It’s amazing so go and watch it now.
