  PEANUTS DELUXE HOLIDAY COLLECTION

I think one of the reasons why I’ve had a fascination with Charles Shulz all these years is because even though the children speak as adults, the primary theme behind all of his specials has been belief and the power of it. Do I agree with his Christian undertones? No, but then his beliefs have never swayed otherwise entertaining programs involving Charlie Brown and his Peanuts gang. The Goal for the holiday collection is to (repackage DVD’s sure but to) introduce three of the best television holiday specials ever made. Among the trio we’re given (by order):

“It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown,” a special about Linus’s quest to prove that there is a Santa for Halloween, while poor Charlie only gets an assortment of rocks for his trick or treating bags. The review to the normal release can be read here. As for “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving,” it was never one of my favorites of the bunch but it’s an entertaining story about giving thanks to what you have and Charlie having no recourse but to give his friends a great thanksgiving based around normal household foods.

The whole theme of gratitude radiates through this thirty minute special about giving thanks through the eyes of Schulz and his crew. As an extra there’s also the half hour “The Mayflower Voyagers.” My favorite though is “Merry Christmas, Charlie Brown!” a wonderful introduction in to the world of Charlie Brown from the Red Baron to a darned tree that needs some love, it’s one of the well acted animated specials I’ve ever seen and one I continue watching even in my age. Warner has pulled out all the stops with a special episode called “It’s Christmastime Again,” and a making of feature called “A Christmas Miracle” about the making of the television classic.

I mean sure it’s a lame repackaging with the three prior releases but If you held out like I did, then this purchase seems like a smart Christmas gift.
