DAY OF NIGHT: DARK DAYS

What I really liked was
a bit of “vampire” realism that was in this. We find out what happens
after the end of a horror movie, what happens to a “last girl”.
Somewhat realistically all the vampire hunters, being vampire attack
survivors, are all suffering from PTSD and are all serious and morose,
all the time. They are all this close to cracking. They
also realize that even though bullets won’t kill vampires, guns can
still be used to blow holes in them and slow them down, which lots of
horror movie people don’t seem to take into consideration when fighting
somewhat bullet resistant opponents.
The good vampire did
just this side of diddly squat. Oh, he could translate. Why again
do the vampires all speak some guttural language? I understand them
being creepy and all, but all they do is stand around looking
menacing and occasionally screaming. I mean, most of them never
even talk at all and only the very recent converts speak English.
This is one quiet movie.

I get that
they wanted them to be more like animals hunting in packs,
but with the humans all walking around in shock and the
vampires all mute, there is nobody with any
personality or charisma in this. I don’t know that there was
one joke or smile cracked the entire run time. The best
thing about the first movie was there in the title 30
Days Of Night, the promise that vampires were going to
be smart and not hang around in the American states known
for their beaming year round sunlight, and instead go
someplace where it is dark for long stretches and you can
walk around outside. |

Instead, in this
movie, we spend all our time in generic sewers and generic hallways
and generic warehouses. And the blood...though there is bathtubs of
it, it always looks watery and pink. By the end of the movie I was
sure they were bathing in wine.
This is a well
shot movie, it all looks very nice and professional. But aside from
being slightly smarter than your average vampire movie and a few neat
bits at the end, this is a dark, depressing and dull movie.
