SEEDS OF ARKHAM

Fan film director Aaron Schoenke seems to never be in short supply of ideas when it comes to delivering damn fine fan films for the Batman audience. The man has committed years to delivering his own vision of the Batman universe and with every passing film we see the maturing of a movie maker who knows how to tell a damn good story while paying fan service to anyone looking for their fix of the DC superhero.

Launched directly after "City of Scars," Gotham has felt a distinct effect ever since the Joker was killed. Now that he's dead there are oodles of criminals coming out of the wood work struggling to take his place as the top dog and Batman is insistent on making sure no one takes the throne from the prince of clowns. Kevin Porter returns as the dark knight, a hero pushed to his limits when he infiltrates a crime ring now being led by a sexy villainess with a penchant for plants, and a man croc, both of whom are working together to rule the under world.

The gorgeous Alexa Mey is a dead ringer for Poison Ivy, this sultry psycho who has plans for Gotham now that the Joker is out of the way, while Xango Henry is ghoulish as the bulking Man Croc. As with all of Schoenke's films, his vision for Batman's world is magnificent with a touch of Burton, a touch of Nolan, and his own secret ingredients that make the cinematic entry stand out. Porter looks dynamic as Batman and the suit is incredible working well for the camera with flexibility and perfect shading.

When all is said and done, Aaron Schoenke knows how to perfectly unfold his story while also making things much harder for Batman. The introduction of a second player to the mix in the final scene is brilliant and sets the stage for yet another short film I intend to keep an eye out for.

Aaron Schoenke is one of my favorite indie directors and also one of my favorite fan film diretors as his vision for Gotham is a worthy successor to Christopher Nolan's own idea of what this city should look like and represent. With tight performances, great choreography, and a surprise ending, this is yet another excellent installment for Bat fans across the globe.
