It’s a small world we live in. Sometimes
when we think we’re alone, we can sometimes experience a bout with our
past, whether we like it or not. “If Occurrence” examines that very
notion with a somber short film about the fateful meeting of two women
on the street one cold day. During a waiting session on the sidewalk,
Nina meets eyes with an old friend, and the conversation sparks. “If
Occurrence” is not so much a picture of thing we sometimes wish we could
have said to that particular person, but how sometimes life just won’t
allow us to say the things we want to that person. Licisyn hints at the
rather brutal past of these women and never fully fills us in.

Were they best friends torn
apart by life, best friends torn apart by a love triangle,
or perhaps… lovers. Lovers who part with their significant
others but know full well they’re still enamored with one
another. Licisyn imagines the meeting between these women
and the choices they make in deciding perhaps they should or
shouldn’t. The consequences are well within their grasp, and
you can sense that with their meeting and conversation.

Vitt and Romains’ performances are solid
with the chemistry and awkward emotions being conveyed well by the
dialogue that relies less on the talents and expressions of these
two people. “If Occurrence” is a well done little drama about life
and relationships that are never to be. No matter how much we wish
otherwise.
Licisyn manages to properly squeeze in a lot of baggage, chemistry, and
sheer exposition in a window of a little under ten minutes, and he
succeeds with a tight drama about broken relationships and fate.
