I KNOW WHO YOU ARE

"I know Who You Are" is as basic in horror or the supernatural as ghosts are, and ends up seeming more like an episode of a low-rate anthology program than an actual short film. The whole film's concept and story has been done, basically to death, and not once is there a real nugget of originality I was able to find in the whole short film I saw. With all the possibilities for a truly ironic piece of storytelling the movie never takes advantage of such and never pulls through with what it promises. It's the usual tale of two people seeking a fortune teller, one is skeptical, the other believes, the fortune teller predicts something will happen and we watch it play out in the most ironic of ways.

Problem is, it's never ironic. The teller tells of a man with bleeding eyes, we never see that, the teller tells of red white and blue colors, perhaps I wasn't paying attention but I never saw that either, and then she predicts a lot of bugs, and we see one really big cockroach. Taking low budget concerns in to consideration, it still just doesn't give us what we're promised and makes up for one of the cheesiest of climaxes. With an over-dramatic score, the whole film's story involving fate, and destiny has just been done literally to death ad nauseum and I wanted to care what happened to these people, but we're never given much of a reason. Actor Ryan Glorioso is extremely over the top for what the film requires of its cast and most of the time comes off very comedic instead of dramatic.

If this guy was supposed to be our leading man all along why do we focus a lot on the character of his sister the first three minutes? And how did that fortune teller predict what would happen if no one else really informed them about her mysterious powers? The film then manages to focus on many things that don't really need it. The fortune teller predicts that the girl with a pony tail will kill Lee's wife, but nothing of the sort ever happens, and eventually introduces the final scene which is supposed to be shocking and supply very much of an ironic twist, but really it just ends up being goofy, especially with the delivery Glorioso provides with the inherent shock. And who holds a knife to their own stomach?

Nothing is given to us here that we haven't seen before. Fortune tellers, questions of fate and destiny, over the top acting, and a lot of plot holes make this short film worthy of a remake in to something more coherent.
