The holidays are
definitely my favorite time to go to the movies. The snow is
out, the theater is crowded, and there is just something in the
air. It's hard to explain, but if you have seen a movie during
the holidays, you know what I mean. It's a great escape after a
weekend full of annoying relatives and bad gifts. You can even
munch down on some great movie popcorn because it's the holidays
and you can eat what you want. You can lose that extra weight in
the new year. But during the holidays, live it up! I'm going to
present you with the top five films you have to see this holiday
season. I hope you enjoy my list and Happy Holidays!
5) Dreamgirls
Jamie Foxx, Eddie Murphy, and Danny Glover in the same movie is
always a good thing. This looks to be the movie this Holiday
season that will have you dancing in the aisles along to the
movie. I'm not usually into films that are big on music, but
even I'm interested in this film. It looks like it might be
another big hit like Ray was in 2004. Great things are also
being said about Jennifer Hudson and her performance in this
film. Lastly, seeing the gorgeous Beyonce Knowles is always a
good thing. This looks like a film to see during the holidays
before you have eaten. If you see it after you have eaten, you
might get sick doing all those crazy dance moves in your chair.
Take it easy during this one.

4) The Pursuit of
Happyness
The Smith family reminds you what the holiday season
is really all about. Will Smith's son appears to have
just as much charisma as old pops, which is a lot. I'm a
sucker for a good family drama and this film appears to
provide me with plenty of that. Will Smith and his films
always make money for some reason. He can do anything
and it will make cash. He can be battling robots or
teaching Kevin James how to dance, and it will somehow
make a bundle of cash. This looks like a film to take
the whole family to see and go "aww" and smile during.
My advice is to bring along plenty of tissues and family
for this one. It looks to be the perfect holiday film. |
3) The Good Shepard
Robert De Niro does double duty in this one as he acts and
directs in this film. We have an all-star cast featuring Pesci,
Jolie, William Hurt, and Matt Damon as well. We get to see De Niro
in a film with Pesci and they are not lovable mobsters. I can only
hope that De Niro and Pesci take time to whack someone during this
film. I'm looking forward to seeing what De Niro can do behind the
director's chair with this film. This is your serious adult film for
the holiday season. If you are tired of Smith and not in the mood
for dancing, this film will make you think. This film might also
garner some Oscar nominations, so be one of the first to see it.
2) We Are Marshall
I have a soft spot for this film for three reasons. Matthew
McConaughey is not the best actor in the world, but he has a
presence on screen. He has "it." He's got a certain goofiness to him
that is endearing to the general public. This time we get to see him
in a more serious and meatier role for a change. Secondly, I love
sports and watch them often. Because of this, I'm very familiar with
the story of what happened. Third, this seems to be the film this
holiday season that will get you to stand up, cheer, and feel great.
Anytime a movie can get an audience to react like that, I'm all for
it. I just thought of a fourth reason and that is the director McG.
He is the producer of The O.C., which is one of my favorite TV
shows. I have plenty of reasons to check out this film.
1) Rocky Balboa
This film is getting my dinosaur dad out to see it on opening
weekend. My dad rarely sees movies unless he is familiar with the
story. The last movie I got him to see a movie with me was
Cinderella Man back in 2005. Anytime I can get a father/son night
out, I'm a happy camper. This is also the first time I'll be seeing
Rocky on the big screen in all its glory. The other films came out
when I was too young to see them, or I wasn't born yet. This is
without a doubt, the film to see this holiday season. Don't complain
he's too old, it's another sequel, or you don't wanna see it. You
are never too old, cynical, or bitter to enjoy the human spirit of
Rocky Balboa. GO ROCKY GO!
