Have you ever wondered what happened to one of your favorite actors?  Have you ever wondered if they were dead?  It seems like only yesterday that they were living it up on the big screen.  Now, you can't seem to find them anywhere.  What went wrong?  Did they get into any legal trouble?  Did they piss off some producer?  As we all know, Hollywood is a tough place to make a living.  It might have a lot of perks, but it also has a lot of negativity.  You're under the spotlight 24-7 with media all over the world.  If you mess up, the whole world is going to know about it.  It's easy to fall into a slump with your career in your Hollywood.  With this column, I'm going to focus on five of my favorite stars and beg the question:  "Where are they now?"  I hope this column encourages you to ask the same question about some of your favorite stars.  We can't forget about Hollywood's past.  If not for the past, we couldn't have the present or the future.  You always have to respect those who came before you.

Where Are They Now?  Number 1:  Jon Voight

Midnight Cowboy is one of my favorite films of all time.  It's a classic film.  Jon Voight is simply amazing as Joe Buck, who's a naive cowboy with big dreams. Back in the late 60's to the mid 80's, Jon Voight was one of the best actors in Hollywood.  He pumped out great performance after great performance in films such as Coming Home, Deliverance, and Runaway Train.  He even received an Oscar for his performance in Runaway Train.  That being said, his career was very bizarre in the 90's. First, he was in a lot of great films like Michael Mann's Heat and Brian De Palma's Mission Impossible.  Even though he didn't get top billing, he was still doing quality work for a man his age.

Following Mission Impossible, his career took a strange turn when he appeared in Anaconda.  He also made forgettable appearances in films such as Zoolander and Pearl Harbor.  In 2002, he received an Oscar nomination for his work in Ali.  After his Oscar nomination, his career hit a new low with his work in films such as The Karate Dog and SuperBabies: Baby Geniuses 2.  Now it appears that Jon Voight is stuck playing gimmicky characters in films such as Glory Road and The Manchurian Candidate.

What went wrong?  I blame his poor career choices on his problems with Angelina Jolie.  I think he was too distracted by his lackluster relationship with his daughter to focus on his career.

How can he fix his career?  He needs to star in an Independent drama with a great script.  He needs to show off his acting chops once again.

Where Are They Now?  Number 2: Sissy Spacek

Sissy Spacek is a very good actress.  There's no question about that.  If you don't believe me, you need to check out her performance in Coal Miner's Daughter, which helped her win an Oscar.  She also does her own singing in the movie!  She's probably best known for her work in Carrie, which was directed by Brian De Palma.  It goes without saying that Sissy Spacek has range.  Sadly, she's been stuck playing second fiddle in films such as Gray Matters and North Country.  What happened to Sissy being a leading lady?  First and foremost, it's hard to be a leading lady when you turn 50.  Hollywood is about looks.  It's sad but true.  That being said, she can still act.  She just needs the right material and the right director.  She was amazing in Nine Lives, which about 9 people actually watched.  It's just so depressing to see her name not even mentioned on posters for movies that she's in.  She's an Academy Award winner!! Show some respect, bygod!  I hate to see her wasted in pieces of junk like Gray Matters.

What went wrong?  Unless your name is Meryl Streep, you're going to get ignored when you turn 50.  You might even get ignored when you turn 40.  It's a shame for the ladies of Hollywood.  They still haven't lost their ability to act.

How can she fix her career?  She needs to do something that will raise some eyebrows.  She needs to take on a controversial role.

Where are they now?  Number 3:  Karl Malden

It might be hard to believe, but Karl Malden is STILL alive.  Yup, he's still around.  I saw him on the special features on the DVD for A Streetcar Named Desire.  He's still really sharp as well.  He's not confused and befuddled.  Even so, he hasn't acted since 2000.  His last acting job was on The West Wing, which was a great show.  The question is:  Does Karl Malden want to act?  It's hard to say.  I haven't really seen too many interviews where he's talked about the possibility of acting.  It could be the fact that Hollywood is very rude to the older generation.  Still, I'd like to see Malden get one more role.  JUST ONE MORE ROLE.  I'd love to see him put on the acting boots one more time. I think Karl Malden would be a great source of knowledge for other actors on set.  He could offer them so much advice.  Hell, I'd love to hear his Brando stories!  I really hope that Malden gives us one final performance before it's too late.  He deserves to go out on top.

What went wrong?  Nothing  I think he just decided to take a break from acting.

How can he fix his career?  He needs to find a role that's funny, touching, and unique.

Where are they now?  Number 4:  Danny Glover

Believe it or not, Danny Glover is a very reliable actor.  I think his best performance of all time was in Grand Canyon, which was directed by Lawrence Kasdan.  Glover has also been consistent in films such as The Color Purple, Silverado, and The Lethal Weapon Series.  Sadly, Danny Glover has been lost in the shuffle in a lot of his recent films.  While he was very good in Dreamgirls, it was a small role.  He was overshadowed by Eddie Murphy and Jamie FoxxDanny Glover also made an appearance in 2004's Saw.  It's a shame that they killed Danny Glover in the first Saw, because he could have made a nice living off the Saw franchise.

I don't even want to talk about Danny Glover's work in The Cookout. While Danny Glover has never been a leading man, he's better than the roles he's been given lately.  Show some respect to the glove man!  He deserves it, by god.

What went wrong?  He just hasn't been given the right roles or the right material.  He's been stuck in bad films like The Shaggy Dog.  An actor is only as good as the material in front of him.

How can he fix his career?
He needs to portray a famous musician or celebrity.

Where are they now?  Number 5:  Mena Suvari

Remember Angela Hayes from American Beauty?  It's hard to believe that it's been over eight years since Kevin Spacey jacked off to Mena Suvari in American Beauty, which won the Oscar for Best Picture.  Mena also found fame as Heather in American Pie.  Needless to say, she loves all things American!  Here's the thing:  She's still pretty and very talented.  That being said, she's been lost in films as Rumor Has It, Domino, and Beauty Shop.  I honestly think that she has leading lady charm and beauty.  She's a lot more talented than Kirsten Dunst.  What went wrong?  I think she came on too soon.  She was HUGE in the late 90's.  Sadly, she's been overlooked lately.   God, Hollywood is rude to women.  They really chew you up and spit you out.  She deserves better from Hollywood.  She's very underrated.

What went wrong?
  She peaked too soon.

How can she fix her career?  She needs a serious role with a great director.
