Ecarma’s film is not something you’re
supposed to take too seriously in the beginning. As an overall entry,
“Lethal Force” strives to be nothing more than trash cinema, and that’s
what it is. That’s not a caveat, just more of an endearing quality that
works in favor of Ecarma’s ode to the grind house. While Tarantino and
Rodriguez are out there making a grind house film on fifty million,
people like Ecarma are making actual grind house films on very low
budgets. That’s why it’s not hard to laugh at the duo’s failed attempts,
however good the experience was. Making a low budget film on a big
budget contradicts the actual principle. Ecarma’s film is an
entertaining bit of schlock that features almost every bit of cheesy
character clichés you can imagine.

It’s not the “Scream” of action films, as
the description reads, but it’s an entertaining enough
little piece of B Grade cinema. As a guilty pleasure,
“Lethal Force” works; the dialogue is utterly cheesy, and
much of the acting goes so over the top, but there’s a
certain charm to it that managed to win me over in the end.
Ecarma’s direction is nothing to dismiss, as he manages to
capture some tight choreography, and entertaining action
scenes along with some odd set pieces. |

When you see an assassin hiding in a mail
box, you just know this is not intent on being a stern action picture.
And Ecarma knows his cult films, paying homage to many of the great
including a shot by shot re-enactment of the opening scenes to “Faster
Pussycat, Kill! Kill!” Ecarma’s film is made with the best of
intentions. It’s a corny, goofy, and utterly entertaining throwback to a
time where grind house trash cinema were made on minuscule budgets and
received a lot in return. “Lethal Force” is filled with talent, humor,
and surreal entertainment you have to see for yourself.
Tarantino should be so clever. Admittedly,
it’s an acquired taste but “Lethal Force” is a fun little ode to the
trash cinema sub-genre with an excellent series of homage’s, tight direction
and choreography, over
the top action, and decent performances. Cult fanatics need apply.
