Dave Kessler just awoke one morning to
discover that his inner most thoughts are being posted in thin air. From
who and how? Who knows? Perhaps it’s just a manifestation of Dave’s need
for truth, or maybe it’s a breath of fresh air in a life that’s filled
with lies. All that we really learn is that Dave has secrets aplenty,
and the subtitles are unforgiving inner most thoughts that may be his
downfall, or perhaps… his saving grace. Either way: imagine waking up to
find these relentlessly putting your thoughts and opinions on display
for everyone to see?

“My Life in Subtitles” is a
hilarious short film about the lies we lead in life, and how
sometimes, it all comes out in the open. Director Danny
Grossman doesn’t use the materialized subtitles for the sake
of comedy only, he instead uses it as a metaphor for our
life and how we’re constantly telling lies to one another.
Perhaps they’re lies for the sake others feelings or perhaps
they’re lies that we bury within ourselves, but eventually
it will all come out. |

And with the character Dave, it comes
out whether he wants it to or not, and will probably continue
leading a life of lies even when his subconscious is telling the
truth to others well into his life. This would make a kick ass
feature length film. “My Life in Subtitles” is an otherwise original
and hilarious glimpse into our double lives, and hearkens back to
films like “The Truman Show.”
It's a shame this wasn't longer, because "My Life in Subtitles" has so
much potential as a feature length comedy, but within its time frame,
it's a hilarious, and fascinating rhetorical question about secrets, and
lies, and how they eventually rise to the surface in one form or
another.
