MOVING

It's very hard to review a comedy.  You know why?  Because who is to say that anyone is right or wrong for enjoying a certain type of humor.  You might enjoy your humor in the vein of Thank You For Smoking.  You might enjoy your humor in the vein of American Pie.  It's all about choice and preference.  Nobody is right or wrong for laughing or not laughing at something.  I prefer my humor subtle and full of pop culture references. I can't stand humor that resorts to F bombs or cheap shots.  What's a cheap shot?

A cheap shot is humor that resorts to making fun of race, sex, religion, or stereotypes.  ANYBODY, and I mean anybody can do that.  It gets a quick reaction without having to come up with a joke on your own.  Now, before you call me a prude, hear me out.  It doesn't offend me, it just bores me.  I'm bored that you can't come up with anything else to get a chuckle out of me.  It's like the comedian who uses the F bomb in his routine.  It might be funny once, but not 47 times.

Do I think you are wrong for laughing at it?  Not at all.  Feel free to chuckle and have a great time.  Just don't expect me to laugh along with you. movinG follows a band of strippers, both male and female, as they go through their normal everyday routine.  We follow them as they deal with sex, drugs, and the hard ships of their job.  They also make sure to do their best to offend anyone and everyone that they can.  The DVD box describes the film as part Clerks, part Boogie Nights, and part South Park.  I think that is where the problems with the movie start.  It's trying to be something else instead of forming its own identity.  So many Indy films are occupied by people who are movie fans and trying to copy the films they loved growing up.  I would prefer they spent their time trying to be original and different from those films.  The films are out there and can be seen by everyone.

After movinG ended, I asked myself a lot of questions.  Was the film funny?  No.  Was the film sexy?  No.  Was the film original? No.  It doesn't do a whole lot well.  I probably sound somewhat negative and mean with my review of this film.  But if you enjoy the humor I described, you'll love movinG.  It didn't work for me, but it might work for you. You should just know what you are getting yourself into.
