MR. & MRS. SMITH

Characters - Brad Pitt and Angeline Jolie sizzled onscreen together as Mr. and Mrs.Smith was jam packed full of dazzling intense action and many enjoyable laughs. Pitt and Jolie really complimented each other when portraying a married couple who were both secret agents. Pitt, as John Smith delivered a seriously comedic performance, the funniest I have seen since The Mexican. He had tremendous amount of charisma and delivered his lines at the exact moments necessary to make the scenes entertaining and never dull. The comedic moments were not forced and Pitt's delivery in turn made the ordinary moments extraordinary. Such simple situations proved to be funny because of his reactions to what was occurring. For example, a complex and complicated situation then handled gracefully by Pitt then resulted in a comedic manner. I found myself chuckling many times, not only at the dialogue, but the overall performance of Pitt.

Angelina Jolie simply sizzled and was very electric from beginning to end. I enjoyed her character and thought she performed very well along side Pitt. Her Jane Smith character complimented Brad Pitt's like interlocking puzzle pieces. I found her to be seductively charming and dangerously attractive at all times. The two's chemistry proved to be nothing short of spectacular as they seemingly enjoyed working together.

Vince Vaughn provided an amusing yet interesting supporting cast member and was most likely picked for extra comic relief. Adam Brody was also added for comic relief and was probably chosen because Director Doug Liman had a stint as a producer for The O.C.

Storyline - This I was taken by surprise. Mr. and Mrs. Smith is what I consider an original storyline. It was definitely something I've never seen before. I could hint that it had some intriguing plot twists and made you think, but I don't want to give anything away. Screenwriter Simon Kinberg delivered an action packed exciting thrill ride that left me on the edge of my seat, not only tense but laughing my way through it as well. This film exceeded my expectations and surprised me with plenty of laughs too.

Cinematography - This was filmed beautifully! I couldn't believe the number of different shots and types camera angles were used, especially during the action scenes. The colors inside the house were also a nice element. The wardrobe crew fit Pitt and Jolie into colors which offset the background giving them a defined and focused appearance against it.

Plotline - Although the plot wasn't rushed, Liman didn't take the necessary time to provide a background to Mr. and Mrs. Smith. I was confused by who their characters employers were. I know the couple was secret agents/hired assassins, but Liman did not explain who they work for exactly. Give me something! Give me anything! It could be real or imaginary!! He should have taken 5 minutes of the film to detail the background of the who and the how. How did they have their house secretly equipped with all the weaponry?? You can't tell me that they done it themselves, that's just ludicrous! It would never work and make sense. Someone had to do it. WHO!! I was disappointed by the fact this notion was left out. It added mystery but complicated the plot line since I still don't know what agency could have such immense intelligence and hardcore weapons.

Adam Brody - For what they used him for, I was disappointed. I know he's the "sarcastic" and "funny" kid off of the O.C. but they really did not need to have him portrayed this way for this film. It was already amusing without him. They should have cast a more hardcore actor for his character named Benjamin "Tank" Diaz. Diaz sounds kind of Latin/Spanish to me so maybe a more serious actor from that ethnic group could have sold me the character. I just didn't buy it.

Dazzling performances, breathtaking stunts and intense action mixed with stellar comic relief, Mr. and Mrs.Smith does not disappoint. It is a must see for every fan of action movies!

  • Will Smith and Catherine Zeta-Jones were suggested for the roles had not Pitt and Jolie been available.
