RASL #3
Momar Van Der Camp

Published by Cartoon Books
Written and illustrated by Jeff Smith

Rasl is still on the hunt for the lizardy man who attacked Annie in the last issue and is still trying to run from those trying to kill him. And we get a LOT of the backstory in this issue.

Commentary:
This and Madman this week were two of the best comics I've ever read. Two of the most enjoyable things ever put into my hands. RASL is turning out to be THE book people should be reading.

Because 10 years from now, or whenever the book is complete, people will be talking about this as a perfect thing. A work of art. On par with Watchmen and all the best comics to ever be produced.

Just like Smith's Bone. This is the one book people will want to know what it is.

The entirety of this issue is Rasl still jumping dimensions to find the man who killed Annie. He's jumped into a dimension where Bob Dylan isn't Bob Dylan, and what's worse, nothing is really the same. Annie is still alive and being hunted by the Lizard Man, the only other man who has been able to dimension jump besides him, and that leads to something of a throwdown between the two.

Beyond that, we gain perspective on who Rasl is. His first name is Rob, and he, Maya and another scientist were working on an experiment to see if trans-dimensional teleportation was possible. Think Prestige and you're close, only no duplicates. The idea of Tesla technology being used for military purposes is completely awesome, and the idea that Maya and Rob looked like they were forbidden lovers (as she was married to the other scientist), it seems like something horrible happened around this experiment that cause Rob to jump dimensions and never look back.

But anyways, Rob is trying to find out more about the man who attacked Annie and he just so happens to be near a bus stop for the Maze of Life Museum exhibit, which has the same man in the maze symbol as Annie's necklace. Rasl goes to the exhibit, and meets Uma, a dimensional duplicate of his beloved Maya, and he needs to stay there to find out more. But no one knows who he is. Can it be possible there is only one Rasl, regardless of where he jumps?

The book is quite astonishing. It's brilliant, it's lovely, it's remarkable. It's one of the reasons to go to the comic book store when it comes out (and I REALLY wish it could come out more often). But the beauty is found here. Just read and enjoy. You can still come in on the first 3 issues and join this book as it progresses. It feels like a deep mystery on par with Lost and things of that nature that just get me every time. I can't wait to read the next issue.

This is book of the week part 1.
