RUNNERS

One thing I will give to the team of Flores and Claveria is that they had me fascinated. Though the first webisode is really a little under five minutes, and broad in both character detail and story, I was wondering what was going on. Who are the villains and who are the heroes? Most importantly, where is it all going? “Runners” is an interesting approach to the hyper violent action indies that I’ve grown quite fond of, and true to form, it’s a pretty entertaining little shoot ‘em up series that hopefully will achieve a direction and focus once the second episode follows. Billy Pak and Francisco Cruz are two gun runners who roam around the better part of the country trading and running arms with different associates.

The problem with them is that every deal has ended up in bloodshed, and now they’re being tracked by a mysterious entity that is intent on putting a stop to their charades and uncovering this secret. What is this “Secret”? The creative crew of Flores and Claveria seem anxious to keep it from us while drawing us to the future episodes.

One of the most interesting aspects of the premiere episode is that of Agent Senoni who is mostly draped in the shadows and left without much dialogue, but seems to be a very valid threat to the anti-heroes of Pak and Cruz. I’m not sure what to make of the plot since it’s mostly just broad hints at something bigger, but so far “Runners” looks like it has the potential to be an entertaining cat and mouse web series.

Though too broad in characterization and story so far, "Runners" looks like it has potential. The two main characters are interesting, the arc seems to be hinting at bigger things, and the character of Agent Senoni has potential. Hopefully, it lives up to its promises.
