The Watchers are here! Magneto is pissed! The Ultimate Universe might be shattered!

Commentary:
Or things might get super-confusing. Essentially, after reading this issue, I'm left asking, what the hell just happened? Magneto is mad because his kids are dead, even though he's never been a particularly good dad. Seems robots created by a human killed his kids, so now he wants to destroy the world. Seems utterly stupid to me. But that's the idea in place thanks to Jeph Loeb.

So amped up Magneto tilts the world's access (I assume) causing mass tidal waves (see Authority 19) that might just end up killing a bunch of people, like Dazzler, Angel, Nightcrawler, and Beast. Oh yeah, and Sue Storm uses all her power and strength to push the tidal wave back, possibly killing her. Reed goes after Namor, even though Johnny and Dr. Storm might also be dead, Latveria freezes over, Spider-Man runs to try and do something, the Ultimates plan for attack, and Wolverine and Cyclops drop in on Xavier once they hear the bad news.

That's essentially all that happens. They make it look like Reed is about to ask Sue to marry him, even though they're both like 17. Oh, and the issue ends with Doc Doom pissed at Mags and Magneto on a throne with Thor's Mjolnir in front of him.

That's it. That's the issue. No real follow-up from Ultimate Origins. Minor follow-up from Ultimates 3. Just another craptastic comic from the mind of Jeph Loeb. I seriously don't understand why he gets to write anything. The issue has no substance. Ooh, you might kill a bunch of people, and why? Magneto's anger makes no sense being directed at the rest of the world, unless he somehow learned what the readers learned, that mutants were created by humans. But even then, we have no reason to believe that he learned that as he's just acting like a massive douche who's son and daughter just died, his son and daughter he didn't particularly like anyway.

So whatever. Finch's artwork, as always, is stellar. I can't wait to see what he does next. But Loeb has lost it. His touch has been gone since Dark Victory. It's like he doesn't know how to craft a good comic story that doesn't have to be all about bullshit. I mean, why are Spidey and Kitty flirting? Has he not read any of Bendis' run and know that they aren't still together? Would he even care to read them? Will we see Rick Jones as the herald in this story, or is he just another forgotten part of Ultimate Origins.

Whatever. This book sucked. Worst of the week. I'm gonna start incorporating that. The books that deserve absolutely no credit for being good. If the next issue is this stupid, it looks like I'll be buying it for Finch's art alone.
