2002. War in Uganda. Genocide. An unknown war, filled with bloodshed, greed, and despair, that most of the world knows nothing about. Perfect place for a new Unknown Soldier.

Commentary:
I don't want to talk much about what happens inside the pages of this book because each and every one of you should buy at least the first issue. Should at least take a gander at the beautiful pages and the insane writing and just give this a try.

I fear for this book as it has a black protagonist, but we'll get to that later.

This is my book of the week. It beat out X-Force in a week where X-Force and Avengers Initiative are usually the best releases that I love the most.

The majority of this book relies on the stellar writing of Dysart, who has spent time in Uganda researching this book and the horrors that have occurred to these people. It's shocking. It's terrifying. But it's great.

When the main character Moses Lwanga meets the Hollywood starlet who thinks she is doing good work, but is just getting facetime, that moment is priceless. The characterization of the wife worried about her husband and the terrified husband thinking his actions will get her killed. These are real problem. Real problems. And it's amazing.

Alberto's art is amazing too. He has a very clean line art style that is very much like cover artist Igor Kordey's, but also reminiscent of the great Eduardo Risso. It's just astounding how well the writer and artist work together.

Along with Air, this book will fit nicely in the space that will soon be left by the finishing 100 Bullets. It's the next Scalped, the next Fables, the next big thing from Vertigo. And I'm terrified that it will be cancelled because it has a cast almost entirely black. Those books, sadly, do not sell in the cookie cutter world of comics.

So I will continue buying this for as long as I can. Honestly. This is one of the best things to hit the stands in a long while. It works well that Unknown Soldier is a great character to begin with, but the ending of this issue seals it as book of the week.
