Iron Fist |
Who?
Through concentration,
Iron Fist can harness his spiritual energy, or
chi, to augment his physical and mental
capabilities to peak human levels. By focusing
his chi into his hand, he can tap the superhuman
energy of Shou-Lao and temporarily render his
fist superhumanly powerful, immune to pain and
injury; however, this process is mentally
draining, and he usually needs recovery time
before he can repeat it. Iron Fist can heal
himself of any injury or illness and project
this power to heal others. He can sense mystic
energy, particularly that which is related to
K'un-Lun. He is capable of fusing his
consciousness with that of another person,
enabling each to perceive the other's emotions
and memories. He has unusually keen eyesight,
but it is unclear if it extends to superhuman
level. His entire body is oriented to combat,
enabling him to adapt to any environment with
minimal exposure. At times, he has absorbed
energy directed at himself and channeled it to
augment his own power. Under certain
circumstances, he can even focus his chi to
create nexus points between dimensions. |
Re-Inventing the Wheel
Daniel Rand, the son of
American businessman Wendell Rand, organizes a
search and rescue effort to find his missing
father. Being trained already in many martial
arts, the young brash man demands that he lead
the team himself. They delves into the
mountains, deeper than it seems any man had ever
been. They began to lose hope, as a blizzard
swallowed them up. Danny came to outside of the
remains of a ancient city. A place that appeared
to have been decimated by war. Only... he could
smell a fire burning within it. Quickly, he
gathered his wits and proceeded forward. One
thing he noticed was the many idols about the
ruins. All of a dragon, it seemed. That's when
he saw it...his father's hand....consumed by an
alarming terror, Danny could barely process
this. Even worse for him, as the darkness before
him spit up a great and mighty thing of
nightmares. A creature that the people here
undoubtedly worshipped until it decided to kill
them all. Just like it killed his father... An
anger filled him, overwhelming the fear, as he
reached his pistol. "I'm not in the business of
dragon slaying, but I may rethink that..." he
said with a snarl as blasted at the foul thing.
The bullets meant little to this beast, ast it
looked at him hungrily. Danny, being of
reasonable intelligence, did all he could do. He
held his breath. The beast swallowed him whole
in it's greed, but thought not of what a mistake
that could be. Taking out his knife, Rand cut
through the throat of it as it began to thrash
about. The blood feel warm and sticky as it
moved about in the dragon's innards...until he
found the heart. "This thing took my heart by
killing my father...so too shall I take it's
heart!" he thought to himself as he plunged his
bare fist into the dark heart of the monster.
But within the heart, he found new pain as the
creature's death came upon it. Emerging from
it's lifeless body, soaked with blood and numb
from the pain he felt, Danny Rand looks down at
his hand in amazement. "It...it looks like it's
turned to iron!". And so, Daniel Rand became
known as Iron Fist, the monster slayer.
My
design for him is actually pretty simple. He
wears normal clothing, depending on the
situation. He keeps his hair messy, as he feels
it unnecessary to worry about it. And of course,
there's the fist. Now, he says it looks like
iron but honestly it's not. It merely appears
that way so we'll stick with calling it that.
It's always balled into a fist, so it goes
without saying that he can't use his right hand
for much other than punching now. Good thing
he's ambidextrous. |

Cyborg Superman |
Who?
Hank Henshaw, a crew
member on a doomed space shuttle warped his mind
into a cyborg which then corrupted him. He went
on to gather information at other planets and
inevitably beamed his mind into the 'birthing
matrix' which had carried Superman from Krypton
to Earth as an infant. He created a small
exploration craft from the birthing matrix and
departs into outer space alone. Henshaw spends
some time traveling between planets, bonding
with local lifeforms to learn about the culture
and history of various worlds. Over time,
Henshaw becomes delusional and paranoid,
believing that Superman had caused the deaths of
himself and his wife, then driven him from the
Earth. Arriving on a planet controlled by alien
overlord and Superman foe Mongul, Henshaw learns
of Warworld and forcibly recruits Mongul as part
of a plan for revenge against Superman. With
Superman apparently dead after his battle with
Doomsday, Henshaw is able to pose as him and
tear down his reputation. To that end, the
Cyborg claims to be Superman reborn, the result
of the hero's body being pieced together and
revived with technology. This ruse is helped by
The Cyborg using knowledge obtained from
Superman's birthing matrix to construct a body
that is genetically identical to Superman. He
eventually went on to commit mass murders in the
name of Superman and led the charge against the
reborn Man of Steel. |
Re-Inventing the Wheel
Hank Henshaw was just
soldier, it was all he knew. It was all he
thought himself good at. It was his life. In
1943, that life came to a screeching halt as a
bullet entered his heart on a cold stretch of
land in Germany. The Nazis didn't care about
him, but they did care about his body. They
needed corpses for those experiments of theirs.
You see, they had finally devised a way to win
the war. They would build a super-man! And good
old Hank? Well, he just happened to be the
freshest corpse. Too bad for those Ratzi
bastards, because that just meant their own
weapon was the most dedicated American who ever
lived.
This
was by far the hardest of the whole lot. How do
I take a character who is tied into the history
of Superman and make him work on his own while
retaining the name? Well, after consulting a few
comics I found myself at a conclusion: I'll do a
twist on the Captain America formula. World War
II hero turned into mechanized super-man! For
his look, basically imagine a lot of German war
machines. They armored him up with various
pieces, making him appear to be this tank that
walks. |

The Wonder Twins |
Who?
The pair made their debut
in The All-New Super Friends Hour. Zan and Jayna
are siblings from the planet Exxor (also spelled
Exor) who were being informally trained by the
superheroes. Zan can transform into any form of
water, including liquid, mist, steam, or,
perhaps most usefully, any kind of functioning
ice structure. Also, at one time, he changed
into a gelatinous form. By combining with
already-existing water, Zan could also increase
his mass or volume in the water form chosen. In
addition, he could transform himself into
weather patterns involving water, such as a
blizzard, a monsoon, or a typhoon. Jayna can
transform into any animal, whether real,
mythological, indigenous to Earth or to some
other planet, like Beast Boy. She did need to
know the name of the animal in order to assume
its form, as she would turn into whatever animal
she named. |
Re-Inventing the Wheel
It's New Year's Eve, the
new millennium is upon the world as everyone
celebrates. But there are a few who wait
silently, afraid that the end could very well be
upon them. The average person dispels them are
paranoid...until the light comes. It's bright
burning fury unleashed upon Times Square in New
York, the whole world seems to stop. Screams can
be heard for hundreds of miles. From the light,
movement is finally seen. Two figures emerge.
Two perfect human specimens... covered in blood
that isn't their own.
Now, I know what everyone is thinking. Yes, I
made them bad. Hear me out though. Think about
it, a normal world where two perfect looking
humanoid aliens land. Who says they have to be
here for something good? For that matter, let's
assume they're like newborns, only in full grown
bodies. Nothing is more cruel that a curious
child. Simple design here too, two naked people.
There you go. No hair anywhere on them either.
Perfection can be frightening if you really stop
and think about it. |

Rocket Racer |
Who?
A villain of Spider-Man's,
Robert Farrell was born in Brooklyn, New York,
was the eldest of seven children. He became
responsible for his younger siblings when his
mother, Emma Farrell died. Robert was a
scientific prodigy, and when he realized he
couldn't earn enough to support his family, he
turned to a life of crime as the Rocket Racer.
He developed a super-powered skateboar which is
propelled at great speed by small rockets and
cybernetically controlled by a crude
walkman-like device. He wore a weapon-equipped
costume, including rocket-powered gloves which
give him the ability to hit an opponent with a
"rocket-powered-punch." |
Re-Inventing the Wheel
He's
a groovy guy who is trying to turn his luck
around. His name is Robbie Farrel and he's got
one thing on his mind: women. But how does a guy
grab the ladies attention when there are super
cats running around making them ooh and ahh?
Why, he gets in on that game, of course! So
remember, when you wanna be saved by the
grooviest cat out there...you better have
yourself a pair.
I
actually had several ideas here. My first idea
was just this nut strapping a giant rocket to
his back, but I wanted to be a little less
Looney Tunes. Picture if you will a lanky track
runner with this huge afro. We're talking
full-on 70's style here. His fro is black that
fades into gold as it reaches the top. Skin
thight gold shirt with a modified red kevlar
shirt over that. On his chest are 4 doses of
adrenaline, for emergency purposes. Steel
knuckled gold gloves cover his hands while in
strak contrast to his tight upper body, his
pants are baggy & beige. Underneath them is also
some kevlar. He's got massive muttonchops and
unique twist on the soul patch. He wears some
goggles, which look like old factory goggles.
And of course, there are his shoes. On his feet
are some Chuck Taylors with rockets strapped to
the bottoms. I know, it doesn't seem feasible,
but what really does in comics? I figure that it
women can walk in heels, he can walk on rockets. |

Blue Devil |
Who?
Daniel Patrick Cassidy was
a special effects wizard and stuntman hired to
create and play the title character in the movie
Blue Devil. To that end Cassidy created a
full-body costume with a hidden powered
exoskeleton and built-in special-effects
devices. When two of his co-stars accidentally
freed a demon named Nebiros, Cassidy used his
costume to drive the demon back, but not before
being blasted with mystical energy. After the
fight, Cassidy found that the blast had
permanently grafted the Blue Devil costume to
his body. Ironically, Cassidy is a devout
Catholic. |
Re-Inventing the Wheel
Private Patrick Cassidy is on his first tour of
duty in Iraq. There are a great many things he's
been preparing himself for. Bodies in the
streets, families crying, seeing other soldiers
like himself blown up or gunned down. Never did
he expect to see what is seeing now though. As
he and his group arrived at what was thought to
possibly be a AL-Queda nest, instead they found
something unexpected: the enemy were laying
slaughtered before them. A scream rang out, as
he jerked his head to it's direction he saw one
of them running. And behind him was a man with a
covered face, dressed all in blue. In his hand,
an old gun that couldn't possibly have taken out
this many men. It was a Luger. There was merely
a blur as the fleeing man is gunned down. Then
Patrick met eyes with the man in blue. "His eyes
weren't human. I swear... I could see the devil
himself in his eyes..."
My
personal favorite among these I've done for this
list. I immediately came up with a detailed
story in my mind. A German soldier who goes AWOL
after being order to execute prisoners in WWII.
He escapes from Germany only to deal with a
lifetime of hardships. I wouldn't explain how he
could do any of what he does. All I'll say is
he's fast, strong and has his own strict code.
He refuses to use any weapon that has killed an
innocent man. He wears blue camo with various
other scraps of blue clothing he's came across
over time. He's the Batman of the battlefield. A
force of nature that you only speak of hushed
whispers. He fights simply to end the fighting. |
