More hidden fiascos in the life and
times of Wolverine and his son Daken. A hint at
Department H craziness, and a tiny glimpse of
Romulus? Alright!
Commentary:
So this is the Wolverine book the world
deserves, and Wolverine is the book the world gets.
It's unfair. We deserve better than Mark Millar, so
thank all that is holy and good for Daniel Way.
I was on the fence about this book for awhile, but
this short arc, the Son of X, was two issues, quick
in and out, and it was worthy of the title of one of
the better Wolverine arcs in recent history.
We see glimpses of the man Wolverine
was. Murdering Japanese men, women, and children
that were interned during WWII. Those same men are
now ghosts and have taken his son Daken, and we get
a further glimpse inside both of their heads.

We see Wolverine suffering at the deaths of the
women he loved and we see Daken struggling
through his life and apparently was in Canada in
the 50s and took down the likes of Cyber and his
men.
Which makes Cyber's reappearance into the book
recently and his attacking Daken make more
sense. And Hudson, Cyber's boss, has an
illegitimate kid with Miss MacDonald? Sounds
like James MacDonald Hudson to me.
But whatever. The ghosts are screwing with
Logan, and the only thing he can do to get out
is kill them, so he does. And Daken has broken
free, but is unsure where he is or who he is.
Looks like he's a clean slate now. Could be good
for Logan.
But before that, we also see that not only was
Romulus using Daken to do his dirty work, he
also hired Cyber and gave Cyber the adamantium
on his skin. So it really looks like Romulus has
just been a constant thorn in Wolverine's side
forever. Gives a nice tinge to the whole history
of the character and what all we've seen so far.
Segovia's art is still stunning. Still very much
influenced by Leinil Yu, and still very much
works for a Wolverine book. It is glorious. It
is worthwhile. I will probably be buying the
Manifest Destiny mini as opposed to the ongoing
Wolverine book because it will have his art and
Jason Aaron's words.
And Daniel Way, as I mentioned, is strongly
suited to tell Logan's stories for a long time.
It gives a good strong sense of him as a warrior
and a man, as well as a monster and an animal.
Way has found his voice with the character, and
I look forward to this book every single month.
Much more so than the regular book.
So kudos to the team. And bring on the next arc
now, and new artist Mike Deodato.
