You should be
pointing to Manifest Destiny by Jason Aaron and
Origins by Way as the Wolverine books to pay
attention to. And Wolverine First Class by Van
Lente. Those are the good Wolverine books. And
they're on TIME.
Jesus.
Anyways, at this point, you probably know the
story: Wolverine is trying to get his son
deprogrammed and is using Xavier to help because
that is what happened to Logan. Who was a hired
assassin to kill Prof. X.
So Logan takes his battle to the Inner Circle of
the Hellfire Club in this ish, and takes the
bear-looking guy out pretty ferociously, and
gets shocked by the woman, killing the leader in
the process. They don't really mention names of
the Inner Circle in this ish or the last one in
the series.
It seems that Sebastian Shaw has been seeding
doubt within the Inner Circle so that he can
usurp power back, and that is why he needs Daken.
The issue, just like the rest, ends with a
cliffhanger and another mention of Prof X being
a terrible asshole. He deprogrammed Wolverine
specifically so that he could use him as a
weapon. So add him to the list of Tony Stark in
New Avengers, Weapon X, Romulus, and who knows
who else using Logan as a weapon for their own
benefit.
Deodato is doing some of the best work of his
career. The panels are all a little strange,
off-center, not directly proportioned on the
page, and it works. It's frenetic, it's crazy,
it's exciting, it's sad that he has only one
more issue before he moves on to a sounds kind
of crappy Avengers book.
His art is just amazing. The last page splash of
Xavier's face is pitch perfect. As is Way's
writing. His characters all seem human, even the
ones that barely get used or get used just to
get clawed in the face. His Wolverine is the
Wolverine of merit, besides Aaron's. Why Marvel
continues to waste great characters on shitty
talent is beyond me, but it will unfortunately
continue to happen.
Mark Millar, Reginald Hudlin, there are quite a
few characters who are not doing justice to
characters and the only reason they are allowed
to touch them is name recognition. But whatever.
This Wolverine book does wonders for making me
enjoy reading this character again. So it's
worth your time as well.
