The Young X-Men go out on their first mission: take down Magma and Dani Moonstar.

Commentary:
As bad as the first issue was, I wasn't too shocked to find the second issue was worse. That's really a shame too, as the creators working on this book are quite good. Let's go over what is good first though, just for fun.

The artwork is excellent. Yanick Paquette does not let down one bit in his department, providing nice fluid line work. He really is wasted here though, as the costumes are honestly bland. He'd be better suited on other team books such as Exiles or Mighty Avengers. I'm not too keen on how he magically gave Blindfold a larger rack, but sadly that's always going to be the comic stereotype.

The biggest problem is simple. This entire story is just... god awful. Everyone is out of character except for Santo. Really, his lines are the sole enjoyable part of the story. He's an ass, but you can't help but love him. Back to what I was saying, let's take a look at the characters here. Cyclops is presented as ruthless and cold. He's acting alone, which is literally impossible when you're bedding down with a telepath. And oh, he's grouped together kids to go kill some old students. Wait, isn't there already a X book out about mutants that kill? X-Force. Guess what? It's characters? They actually stay in character. How quaint.

Dani is even shown putting a gun to Blindfold's head. Dani would never do this. She's a voice of reason, for fuck's sake. Now I'm supposed to accept that she'd gun down one of the kids she not too long ago looked after? Bullshit. Now, I know there's the whole clue earlier in the book that this isn't even really Cyclops (the sentinel thing said five mutants in the room, but he should make six). Seriously? That's the hook here? Wow, how original.

The only scene more underwhelming is the "big reveal" at the close. Ink sucks, this books sucks, Greymalkin looks like Caliban Jr. and I'm frankly glad I was given this issue because had I paid for it I'd have been so pissed off I couldn't even properly put it into words.

By the close of this book.
