In the movie, Robert Deniro plays Nick, a successful yet
tired professional thief who decides to retire so him and his best girl (Angela Bassett)
can live together happily ever after. But his boss Max played by Marlon Brando convinces
him to team up with a sketchy hotshot named Jack (Edward Norton) to steal a gold royal
sceptor from a warehouse, but Nick isn't completely sure who to trust.
What can I say
about this movie? We have three generations of excellent actors going at it like dogs for
a big score which is stealing the scepter. Deniro as always breezes through this flick
without a hitch and basically keeps it interesting. Where there's Deniro, there's surefire
'A' plus acting to follow. I love it how we get to see Deniro and Brando talk like buddies
and crime partners. It was cool seeing the men who mastered Don vito Corleone from the
Godfather be in the same movie together. Edward Norton has just an excellent onscreen
presence in this and manages to make himself the bad guy yet likeable. He smooth and suave
and a bit of a hotshot to top it. The atmosphere of the entire flick is very old-fashioned
and cool yet very dark. This is a cool movie for people to see.
Boy, is this a disappointment or what? I was so let down by this movie that I
can't even begin to express it. This movie is about as action-packed and
entertaining as watching paint dry. Most of the movie is s-o-o-o s-l-o-o-o-w paced and boring.
All the characters are so two-dimensional with no depth or true likeable aspects. Angela Bassett's role
is very redundant and boring and I felt there was never any need to have her in this in
the first place. Though half of the movie is good, half of it is dull and pretty much
pointless. Boy, oh boy.
This is not a good film with a poor plot and
slow paced storyline, but I gave it two stars because of the cool cast.
