In the movie, we settle down onto the a simple New York day when suddenly in an attempt to grab a remaining pair of black gloves, two strangers are brought together in what seems like Fate. Jonathon Trager (John Cusack  Say anything, High Fidelity), a simple man, and Sara Thomas (Kate Beckinsale  Pearl Harbor) a believer of fate have a great night out on the town, but when some bad luck strikes, Sara believes it is fate telling them to back off. She believes this and tells Jonathan that if they're meant to see each other again, they will, by the hands of destiny, but years later, she begins to wonder if she made the right choice or not.
I thought this was a nice little movie which features critically acclaimed actor John Cusack in his nicest role to date. His character is very whacky and out there, especially one funny part where he's trying to bargain with store clerk Eugene Levy in one of the funniest moments in the movie. I thought Jeremy Piven's role as the sidekick wasn't much of a change from his usual roles but it was a good one. Kate Beckinsale is beautifully vibrant in this role as the bright faced optimist, and Molly Shannon is hilarious as her best friend who is growing tiresome of her mentioning her lost love. The movie features plenty of great plot twists and turns and has a supporting cast that makes this movie well worth watching. The movie takes place in New York approximately one month before the 9/11 tragedy, so whether or not the World Trade Center is seen in the background is still undetermined to me. Do Jonathan and Sara end up together or is their love not meant to be? You'll have to watch to find out.

The problems with this is that there are too many plot twists and coincidences to make this movie believable or even plausible. There are scenes where Cusack walks into a cab and Beckinsale walks out of one. Then they are in the same hotel and don't even know it. Though cute and weird in its own little ways, I also found it hard to believe. Another factor was that this movie resorts to physical comedy in favor of Molly Shannon to force laughs out of the audience, a movie device that I felt they could've done without.

An all around sweet movie with a very Capra-esque feel. This is a great date movie, ladies.
