The plot outline for me is kind of difficult to explain. I found this to be very confusing. But I will try to scower for the good and try to give you the gist of the plot outline. Bear with me, folks. A space medical crew is cruising space when suddenly they have to jump dimensions... I think. Some really bad stuff happens during the dimension jump and the captain is killed. So James Spader (The Resident Bad-Ass) takes over as captain. Suddenly they receive a call or signal from an abandoned ship boarding a passenger. Only the passenger has onboard with him a mystery. I'll let you figure this one out for yourself. The special effects as always are excellent, and the scenery is decent. The acting is the best thing in "Supernova." Especially from Bassett and Spader. Bassett provides a great onscreen presence, along with Spader who is the ultimate bad-ass.

No, it's not you. There is very little good to "SuperNova". This is bad, yet enjoyable. The acting is decent yet (tisk tisk) the casting is all wrong. Why cast big stars if they're just there to be killed later on? The characters are about as interesting as a cardboard cut-out. They cast a good actor like Lou Diamond Phillips only to be killed later on. Sorry to spoil it for you, but hire a lesser important actor to the kill factor. Angela Bassett and James Spader and extremely lifeless. Though it was a change to see Bassett in a role where she wasn't whining all the time, she is stale. James Spader is someone who I would love to have on my side in battle, yet he provides a stale performance too. The special-effects are great but overtly typical. It opens with a shot of the ship hovering into the shot so we can see how big it is. It's a good opener but it's been used millions of times in Science Fiction movies. It's so cliche. Every Science Fiction movie involving a spaceship opens like that. (Curse you "Star Wars"!) The ending is very disappointing and unsatisfying. One main aspect is the villain of the movie. Great Look. Great powers. Yet no depth to him. He is only in the movie for a small amount of time, and dies very quickly. Can anyone say "Episode 1"? This is not recommended for the easily bored viewer.

This is just another entry from the countless nameless science fiction movies from the late nineties. Stale plot, stale acting, and stale all around.
