A few words with horror podcaster and filmmaker K. Bly
To start, please introduce yourself:
My name is K. Bly. I co-host the Horror & Hooch podcast and I am a filmmaker.
What is horror to you, what makes a work of art one in the horror genre?
Horror is everything to me, period. Horror as an art form invokes fear, a sense of suspense, and an element of creepiness.
What made you want to work in horror?
I grew up watching horror movies. I also enjoyed reading horror novels. The horror genre sort of provided a way of escapism for me. I have always had a passion for horror and science fiction, and I want to be a part of bringing positive representation to the genre.
Where do you get your inspiration?
Halloween! Halloween is my favorite holiday, and I am inspired by all things related to the holiday.
What would you like your legacy to be in the genre (or elsewhere)?
I want to leave a lasting legacy for changing the narrative of Black Horror.
What is Women in Horror Month to you and why is it still important this many years later?
I think it is an opportunity to celebrate the contributions that women have added to the horror genre and how our presence impacts the evolution and expansion of horror in all media outlets.
Who are some of the Women in Horror who you look up to and who do you want to bring attention to in your field or others?
I admire Misha Green, Dr. Robin R. Means Coleman, and Akela Cooper for their movies, shows, and documentaries aimed towards the horror genre. I would encourage people to look up Zena (Real Queen of Horror) and the Horror Flick Chicks on all media platforms. They have amazing review channels.
