When you get right down to it, sure, \u201cAnita\u201d is sexploitation, and sure in many occasions it can be pure smut, but, and this is a giant but: \u201cAnita\u201d can also be quite entertaining. Very much in the vein of films like \u201cBlack Snake Moan,\u201d Wickman\u2019s drama porn is not just a display for Christina Lindberg and her gorgeous physique, it\u2019s an interesting study in the habits of nymphomaniacs, and the misery that can arise from sex and sexual acts when it\u2019s made out of sheer impulse and not pleasure. Sixteen year old Anita is a girl with so much psychosis that she\u2019s hopelessly addicted to sex and really has no grasp on restraint or discretion when it comes to getting what she wants.<\/p>\n
She waits at train stations and picks up men at random, she has sex with them at construction sites and airport terminals, and she hates herself immediately afterward. After an incident with one of her roommates, Anita seeks a resolution to her sickness and is willing to make a change all at the behest of her friend Erik, a man who seeks no sexual pleasure from her, and in the process of therapy finds himself falling for her. A very young Stellan Skarsgard plays Erik, a man who happens upon Anita one day during a sexual rendezvous and forms a friendship with her. His delving into her sexual past as well as the symptoms of her sexual cravings all amount to eventual physical harm and dangerous environments. While the overall cure to her nymphomania is a bit overly simplistic (she just needs a great orgasm and she\u2019ll stop screwing around! Riiight), \u201cAnita\u201d does portray nymphomania as a stern and often serious affliction that keeps this girl at the mercy of her urges.<\/p>\n
Though the men enjoy the sex with her, Anita is despising her behavior, showing true disgust at the men she has sex with, gains no pleasure at all from the interludes, and really has no idea how to stop. Most of all, Wickman examines the double standards behind nymphomania between the sexes, and how nymphos are commonly misidentified. Wickman doesn\u2019t always explain away Anita\u2019s sexual escapades and really only focuses on her conquests whenever necessary to the story. Her experience, which is hinted to have begun well before puberty, is often explored in the midst of passion. She’s a pro and not by choice. In one scene she completely rips off her panties with one hand in a swift quick motion, a sign of a woman who, Wickman shows, has performed such an act a million other times before. Lindberg is a pure force of sexual nature on-screen and gives a fantastic performance which becomes a feat not easily accomplished considering \u201cAnita\u201d could have easily become another porno.<\/p>\n
Lindberg instills a lot of innocence and humility in Anita when she\u2019s in plain clothes, often whimpering and desperately looking for a way to break free from her obsession. Lindberg, who is best known for starring one my favorite revenge films \u201cThriller\u2014A Cruel Picture,\u201d adapts well into this role and makes Anita a sympathetic figure who never makes the right decisions but tries to. Always appreciating convenient ambiguity, there’s never any indication what created this figure of sexual depravity that has sex out of impulse and not pleasure. Perhaps it\u2019s her insecurity, her monotonous home life, or her inferiority complex to her more homely sister. Regardless of the cause, Anita is a woman with a craving that will prove potentially dangerous. Lindberg and Skarsgard are good together here, and their chemistry radiates off-screen creating a rather entertaining romantic chemistry throughout the narrative. \u201cAnita\u201d isn\u2019t perfect, but it sure works on many levels. Another goody in the sexploitation sub-genre, “Anita” is a wonderful skin flick, an interesting glimpse at nymphomania, and a great display of acting talents from Lindberg and Skarsgard. “Anita” is worth the hype, and worth the watch.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
