So, in that spirit, here are a few great shorts for the season.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>A Tricky Treat (2015)<\/strong><br \/>\nA very short short showing a family getting ready for Halloween while upholding their gory family traditions. Written by Kamal John Iskandar and directed by Patricia Chica, this one is funny, gory, and sweet in its own way. It\u2019s difficult to say much more about it without giving the whole 3 minutes away, watch it for yourself as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=uypLno7CTIw&amp;feature=youtu.be\"><strong>it is available for the next few days here (October 29th to November 1st).<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\n(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/2016\/06\/15\/chicart-short-films-round-up\/\"><strong>Cinema Crazed\u2019s original review<\/strong><\/a>)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Night of the Slasher (2016)<br \/>\n<\/strong>This short about a girl purposefully committing all horror films sins to call a slasher to her house is shot in one, yes just one, continuous shot.\u00a0 The way the story deals with horror film tropes in a humorous and funny way while being a good send-up of those films works great here.\u00a0 Writer\/director Shant Hamassian works well with the one-shot film and genre tropes that are often over done with a couple of unfortunate moments where it\u2019s hard to see what is going as the camera moves too much. However, the rest of the film looks great while making very good use of the house its shot in.\u00a0 The cinematography by Eli Tahan looks good while framing the lead in an enticing and appealing way.\u00a0 This lead is aptly played by Lily Berlina as Jenelle, the heroine.\u00a0 She shows spunk and a knack for putting a spin on the typical slasher victim.\u00a0 In the part of the killer, Adam Lesar has a good physical presence and sense of timing.\u00a0 Night of the Slasher is a fun send-up of its genre with an interesting twist to things.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/127454533\"><strong>You can watch it here.<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/a><strong>(Cinema Crazed\u2019s review <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/2016\/10\/17\/human-killers-and-psychological-terrors-shorts-block-part-2-horrible-imaginings-film-festival-2016\/\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/2016\/02\/10\/night-of-the-slasher-2015\/\">here<\/a>)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Yummy Meat: A Halloween Carol (2015)<br \/>\n<\/strong>On Halloween night, a dentist settles in after giving kids special treats.\u00a0 One adorable little boy stops by and insists on getting something yummy to eat.\u00a0 Written by Sean Decker and directed by John Fitzpatrick, this short is fun and gory.\u00a0 The cast, led by Miracle Laurie as the dentist Amber, has an adorable Little Wolf aptly played by Lucas Jaye and a werewolf played by Lou Ferrigno Jr. who\u2019s appropriately imposing and scary.\u00a0 The creature effects by Dan Crawley and the special makeup effects by Julia Hapney look great while not skimping on the gore.\u00a0 Yummy Meat is one of those shorts that looks good, has more than enough gore for a short film, has good performances, and has just the right amount of atmosphere to set the tone for a frightfully fun Halloween night.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ThRMQ5UP4R8\"><strong>You can watch it here.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Dead Hearts (2014)<br \/>\n<\/strong>The adorable take of a young mortician willing to do a lot to find the love of his life.\u00a0 Written and directed by Stephen W. Martin, this story is sweet and morbid all at once with adorable characters that are not annoying.\u00a0 In the lead of Milton, Valin Shinyei does well with the somewhat mature part he is given.\u00a0 As the love of his young life Lola, Dalila Bela is cute and a little spunky.\u00a0 Their older versions, Old Milton and Old Lola, played by Thomas Orr-Loney and Nancy Bell, are charming and sweet.\u00a0 Dead Hearts is full of like and love while revolving around death.\u00a0 It\u2019s a nice and slightly dark tale that appeals to the horror-loving heart but should make any other viewer fall for the leads.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=loGdw5JTJOs\"><strong>You can watch it here.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Missing Halloween<br \/>\n<\/strong>A child without many friends has an imaginary one who\u2019s there for him.\u00a0 On Halloween night, while trick-or-treating, this child goes missing.\u00a0 This black and white animated short is sweet and sad all at once.\u00a0 As this child goes through life with one his parents and imaginary friend, the viewer can feel the care and love as well as the loneliness.\u00a0 Writer, director, animator, sound designer, music composer, etc Mike Inel creates a short film that hits right in the feel\u00a0 and reminds of rough childhood days and the importance of having a friend.\u00a0 It\u2019s sweet and super sad but absolutely worth checking out.\u00a0 Also, the animation is beautiful with music that\u2019s perfectly paired.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=FaoVpVXcZsA\"><strong>You can watch it here.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Jack-Chop.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-22986\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Jack-Chop.jpg\" alt=\"jack-chop\" width=\"300\" height=\"467\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Jack-Chop.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Jack-Chop-193x300.jpg 193w, https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Jack-Chop-1x1.jpg 1w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><strong>Jack Chop (2012)<br \/>\n<\/strong>Every year, just in time for Halloween, ArieScope releases a short film for the season.\u00a0 Jack Chop is, so far, this reviewer\u2019s favorite of all the shorts they have done.\u00a0 This short takes on the Slap Chop infomercials but adapted for tools to carve pumpkins is funny, bloody, and just perfect.\u00a0 Written and directed by Adam Green and starring Paul Solet who gives a beautifully ridiculous performance.\u00a0 This one pokes fun at a lot of people and a complete genre of television.\u00a0 The humor is very adult and so is the language, but unless these things shock you, go and watch it for a first, second, or 100<sup>th<\/sup> time.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ADqAWUoVtbs\"><strong>You can watch it here.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So you\u2019re getting ready for a Halloween party and don\u2019t have time for a feature but would like to watch something to set the atmosphere for yourself or you just want to watch some bite-size entertainment.
