{"id":25873,"date":"2017-07-30T01:31:27","date_gmt":"2017-07-30T05:31:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/?p=25873"},"modified":"2020-07-29T11:10:35","modified_gmt":"2020-07-29T15:10:35","slug":"the-short-films-of-izzy-lee-fantasia-international-film-festival-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/2017\/07\/30\/the-short-films-of-izzy-lee-fantasia-international-film-festival-2017\/","title":{"rendered":"The Short Films of Izzy Lee [Fantasia International Film Festival 2017]"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/izzy-better.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-25874\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/izzy-better.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/izzy-better.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/izzy-better-300x240.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/izzy-better-1x1.jpg 1w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a>Izzy Lee is a talented short filmmaker who some of us cannot wait to see a feature film from.\u00a0 Her shorts have been many and has one of them, For a Good Time Call\u2026, played Fantasia International Film Festival this year paired with the feature Dead Man Tells His Own Tale.\u00a0 As her work should, more like needs to, be seen by all horror fans, here is a rundown of some of her recent shorts.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Izzy-Lee-A-Favor.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-25875\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Izzy-Lee-A-Favor.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"325\" height=\"503\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Izzy-Lee-A-Favor.jpg 325w, https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Izzy-Lee-A-Favor-194x300.jpg 194w, https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Izzy-Lee-A-Favor-1x1.jpg 1w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 325px) 100vw, 325px\" \/><\/a><strong>A Favor (USA) (2015)<br \/>\n<\/strong>Written by her regular creative partner Christopher Hallock and directed by Izzy Lee, A Favor is about a friend helping another and how far one would go for their friend.\u00a0 Here Lee builds a quick fun film with a simple premise that quickly turns interesting to say the least.\u00a0 The film has good effects by Julie LeShane.\u00a0 The cast, as is usually the case, is talented and takes their parts where they need to go.\u00a0 Shaun Callaghan, Steven Lawlor Jones, and Diana Porter show that they have talent and can deal with just about anything on film.\u00a0 The short looks good, even though this photographer-reviewer has a few nitpicky issues with a few framing decision, with cinematography and editing by Bryan McKay.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Izzy-Lee-Innsmouth.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-25876\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Izzy-Lee-Innsmouth.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"325\" height=\"478\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Izzy-Lee-Innsmouth.jpg 325w, https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Izzy-Lee-Innsmouth-204x300.jpg 204w, https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Izzy-Lee-Innsmouth-1x1.jpg 1w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 325px) 100vw, 325px\" \/><\/a><strong>Innsmouth (USA) (2015)<br \/>\n<\/strong>After an odd and unusual murder, Detective Diana Olmstead is led to Innsmouth where she discovers a few oddities and unusual truths.\u00a0 Inspired by H.P. Lovecraft, this short is written by Francesco Massaccesi and director Izzy Lee.\u00a0 Its story that feels like a dark fairy tale filled with odd characters and dark imagery.\u00a0 It\u2019s one of those shorts that make the viewer wish it were longer as the story is interesting and the weirdness is fascinating.\u00a0 Here Diana Porter gives a performance that works fantastically well as the more (almost) demure Detective Olstead and constrasts perfectly against Tristan Risk\u2019s Alice Marsh, a character that is more \u201cin your face\u201d to say the least.\u00a0 The story build around the two ladies is a fun horror-mystery to watch unfold and a great example of Lee\u2019s penchant for the dark and unusual.\u00a0 The effects here are fantastic with one central piece by Vera Schr\u00e4nkung that won\u2019t soon be forgotten.\u00a0 The Lovecraftian story feels like a perfect fit for Lee\u2019s talent and to let Risk shine in an old badassery kind of way.\u00a0 This short is one of those that make the viewer wish it were a feature so that they could see more of the world built within.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Izzy-Lee-Postpartum.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-25877\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Izzy-Lee-Postpartum.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"310\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Izzy-Lee-Postpartum.jpg 550w, https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Izzy-Lee-Postpartum-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Izzy-Lee-Postpartum-2x1.jpg 2w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/a><strong>Postpartum (USA) (2015)<br \/>\n<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/2016\/10\/10\/human-killers-and-psychological-terrors-shorts-block-part-1-horrible-imaginings-film-festival-2016\/\">Originally reviewed here<\/a>, Director Izzy Lee, who also wrote with Christopher Hallock, creates the short tale of a woman affected by postpartum depression.\u00a0 This woman has a strong case of it and goes a lot further than most new moms would to calm down the crying of her infant.\u00a0 Lead actress Kasey Lansdale pulls no punches in her performance, doing as Lee instructed her and going all out with the crazy.\u00a0 Her performance is mesmerizing, especially given how sweet she is normally.\u00a0 This performance, along with that of the talented Diana Porter, anchors the short and keeps the viewer connected to the story.\u00a0 The short takes a very serious subject and pushes it to the brink, making its point come across clearly while entertaining and not making light of the mental affliction at its center.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Izzy-Lee-For-a-Good-Time-Call.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-25878\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Izzy-Lee-For-a-Good-Time-Call.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"325\" height=\"501\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Izzy-Lee-For-a-Good-Time-Call.jpg 325w, https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Izzy-Lee-For-a-Good-Time-Call-195x300.jpg 195w, https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Izzy-Lee-For-a-Good-Time-Call-1x1.jpg 1w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 325px) 100vw, 325px\" \/><\/a><strong>For a Good Time, Call\u2026 (USA) (2017)<br \/>\n<\/strong>Following an asshole of a move, a man finds himself stuck in a public bathroom where karmic revenge is about to befall him.\u00a0 This short is a bit visually darker than usual for Lee, with a representation in the visual decision of the darkness within.\u00a0 The film is part revenge story, part ghost story, full blown badassery as has become the norm with Lee\u2019s shorts.\u00a0 Here the acting by Diana Porter, Sean Carmichael, and Tristan Risk is good with Risk once again stealing her scenes from everyone else involved.\u00a0 Her screen presence is magnetic.\u00a0 The effects by Julie LeShane and Izzy Lee, paired with prosthetics by LeShane, are gruesome with a twist.\u00a0 It brings a touch of body horror to the story in the most unexpected way.
