{"id":26327,"date":"2017-09-17T08:34:36","date_gmt":"2017-09-17T12:34:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/?p=26327"},"modified":"2017-09-17T01:35:51","modified_gmt":"2017-09-17T05:35:51","slug":"the-reunion-2016-horrible-imaginings-film-festival-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/2017\/09\/17\/the-reunion-2016-horrible-imaginings-film-festival-2017\/","title":{"rendered":"The Reunion (2016) [Horrible Imaginings Film Festival 2017]"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/The-Reunion.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-26328\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/The-Reunion.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/The-Reunion.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/The-Reunion-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/The-Reunion-2x1.jpg 2w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a>A man goes into the woods looking for a missing young man with his trusted gun and his will to find him.\u00a0 What he finds turns out differently than planned.<\/p>\n<p>In filmmaker Francisco Silva\u2019s short film about a man looking for something in the woods and finding out much more than he expected, he explores what one may find on the other side of the darkness and that is may not always be what one expects.\u00a0 The way the film is written brings horror elements to this story and creates an interesting mystery with a surprising ending.\u00a0 The film is kept simple in story and dialog as well as setting and development.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The cast here is led by actor Randy Davison who gives an everyman-type performance as Harrison Dulles.\u00a0 His performance is decent, but feels a bit basic in terms of not being given a lot of emotional scenes or a chance to use nuances.\u00a0 He does show that he can play his part, but doesn\u2019t show as much talent as he could have here.\u00a0 The part being almost the only one in the entire short, his performance is tantamount to the film working in the end.\u00a0 He does give the right performance for the part and the film but it feels like if it had been a bit more and it would have pushed the film further.<\/p>\n<p>The film\u2019s ending depends on a surprise that cannot be discussed to not ruin it for other viewers.\u00a0 As the bulk of the effects are in that last section of the film, it is difficult to discuss them without spoiling it.\u00a0 However, it can be said that the reveal is good even if the effects for it are not great unfortunately.\u00a0 This is most likely due to a lack of budget, but perhaps keeps the reveal more off-screen or veiled would have helped it look better as sometimes less is indeed more and most people\u2019s imagination will fill in the blanks with even scarier or better effects.<\/p>\n<p>The Reunion is a fun short film but it does suffer from its lower budget, especially on the effects side of things.\u00a0 It\u2019s a worthwhile watch but feels like a student film which is something many student films of late have managed to avoid.\u00a0 The reveal at the end is surprising and works with the story while also not feeling forced or too predictable.\u00a0 The Reunion shows talent from the people involved that could easily be developed much further.\u00a0 There is a seed of hope, of something that may very well become a whole lot more.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A man goes into the woods looking for a missing young man with his trusted gun and his will to find him.\u00a0 What he finds turns out differently than planned.
